🏀 Today is a really special day for me, Coach Phillip Morrison.

For years, I've had a dream of creating more than just basketball training. Something holistic like the game was was created to do (mind, body, spirit, soul).

I've wanted to build a global community where point guards from anywhere in the world could receive the kind of mentorship, confidence, leadership, encouragement and basketball IQ that changed my own life. A kid from Louisville getting to become a college & overseas pro & now basketball missionary.

As many of you know, I wasn't the biggest or most athletic player. I was a small guard who played for PRP High School. I had to learn how to think the game, play with confidence, and become the kind of player coaches could trust. Often doubting myself & being a ruthless perfectionist.

That journey kept going & by the grace of God led me to become a College All-American at Asbury University, play professionally all over the world, and ultimately discover that basketball was much bigger than the game itself. It could impact lives.

Today, that vision officially becomes a reality.

Amazing tour of camps & coaches clinic with my time in Regina & Saskatoon. So impactful & as I always say “Basketball is Ministry.”

The “unholy trinity of basketball” is shame, guilt, and doubt. These three hidden forces quietly steal a coach/player’s confidence, freedom, and joy. I just returned from a powerful event in Jackson, TN & want to unpack this revelation myself & Coach Matt Sanders experienced.

The unholy trinity has a message many of us know: Shame says, “I’m not good enough.” Guilt says, “I messed up again.” Doubt says, “Can I really do this?” When these voices control you, you begin to coach or play tight, scared, hesitant, and overly focused on mistakes instead of trusting what you already know & are capable of.

The real growth begins when we learn to separate their identity from their performance. Your identity is not rooted in your performance but in what God says about you & how beloved you are. Turning off the scoreboard & internally at rest with Abba. That is where freedom starts and that is where the real coach/player begins to show up.

I will be unpacking this on weekly community zoom call tomorrow 5/21 (details below). Also at a basketball coaches clinic this weekend 5/22 in Regina, Canada with 🏀✝️
