TRYOUT TIPS: How do you stand out in a gym?⁠ Here’s what we share with our athletes:⁠ ⁠ 1. Smile. Joy is magnetic. Show that you're excited to be there.⁠ ⁠ 2. Work hard. Don’t worry about looking cool—give full effort, all the time.⁠ ⁠ 3. Hustle everywhere. Hustling shows enthusiasm and a desire to make the most of your training.⁠ ⁠ 4. Make eye contact. When a coach is speaking, lock in. Show them you’re engaged and that you care about what they’re saying—even if you don’t agree with everything. Respect goes a long way.⁠ ⁠ 5. Apply instruction immediately. If a coach tells you to talk, start talking. If they tell you to stay low, commit to it for the rest of the session. This shows you’re coachable and eager to learn.⁠ ⁠ 6. No sulking. Even when things don’t go your way, keep your head up. Bring next-ball energy and stay locked in.⁠ ⁠ 7. Communicate early and often. If you want to stand out, you have to be willing to stand out.⁠ ⁠ 8. Stay engaged—even when off the court. S**g balls, keep the court clear, be a great target, hand the ball to your coach intentionally. Every moment matters.⁠ ⁠ 9. Serve well.⁠ ⁠ 10. Pass well.⁠ ⁠ And finally—don’t forget: your value doesn’t come from how this tryout goes.
