After last nights last minute flurry, I tried to talk Jamie into not going out til like 7:30 tonight, but it was nice so we went out at 6.

We trolled around out front for like two hours without a bump, then 10 minutes after sunset, everything went. We went 7/7 in probably 25 minutes. Four decent fish, three smaller ones(threw one back). 1, 3, 5, high and low divers all went. Spoons on 1 and 3, but plugs on everything else. Then, as fast as it started, it was over. Trolled for another 15 minutes without a bump. Graph was still packed with fish, they just stopped biting.

There’s lots of fish out front.The pond should be decent this weekend.

Also, realized at the end of the night that we trolled in the shape of a di@k. We caught all our fish between the balls.. 🍆

Went out at 3:00 trying to find a break and some steelies. Was also told there was a bunch of bait right in front of Epworth.

We gotta steelie on a 1 color that got off pretty quick, then another 9lbish steelies on a three that we boated, but that was all for the jumpers. The surface temp at the pierheads was like 64, but it dropped to 57-58 in all directions and didn’t vary much. We fished 40fow between the pierheads and epworth and had a pretty good night flurry. We boated 4 more kings , I knocked another nice fish off at the net(which never happens), and Janie farmed an adult 8’ from the back of the boat. Should have easily had 7. Missed a few more that hit and ran. Captains choice glo plugs on high diver back 90’ was best at sunset.,Overall fun night.

Oh, and if anybody snags a Cummings Aluminum Landing Net in 40fow out front, I’d love it back. My brains still not working right. I stuck it in the cup holder instead of net holder, like I haven’t done this 10,000 times. Oops. 🤦‍♂️

I’m ready to start steelhead fishing and it’s supposed to be flat for a few days.

If anybody is out of Ludington and finds a 8+ degree surface break in like a mile or less, lemme know. I’m quite sure cold top water is just over 50degrees in some places and still probably 63-64ish in others. If anybody finds somewhere that those two mash up tight, I’d love the intel. I’ll even keep the numbers a secret. Seagull has been real hit or miss this year when it comes to nearshore cold water. If you note the down-temps when you find it, you’re my hero.

So after a successful short trip last night and a much more favorable wave forecast than yesterday, we got Brian and Cindy to come on one last trip before they migrate south for the winter this week. It was Lyle’s first trip out with us, but he fishes with them all the time. Ludington Legend Logan who was with us last night was running a crew this morning and they boated a bunch of fish. He gave me what changed and with that, we headed out a little after 5pm.

We set down in 110’ of water off the bathhouse. Surface was 63.5, about what it was all the way from the pierheads. We didn’t have five rods out yet and the 5 color with a Yeck fireball took off with a 10ish lb steelie putting on a show. As soon as the fish got in the boat. I grabbed a 3 and put a fireball on it. It wasn’t out there 2 minutes and took another steelie. By the time we got the rest of the spread out, we were just shy of the lighthouse, nothing else had went, and and now the surface temp was 53 degrees. A ten degree E/W surface break in probably a half a mile, and we banged two steelies before we got our spread out. What I should have done was turned around once the water got cold and did circles there. Unfortunately, that is not what I did. I was literally about to start doing that, and we marked some and fish, Logan had caught kings up there this morning, so I kept going. We boated a small king and lost one on the 3 color. I ended up in the 04.5s calculating that it would put me in front of the point at sunset and finish between the stick and bathhouse.

We spun, got back into like 100fow and hit another one and then proceeded to troll south. We ended up getting another and losing I think 2 more. Problem was, water was moving south, and we never got in the break. It was 53degrees on top almost to the bathhouse. There was no night flurry. Running in, that’s where the surface break was, between the bathhouse and the sandplant, and although 70-100’ was loaded with fish north, when we got to the warmer water on top, the graph looked way more like what we saw last night. It’s cold at the point top to bottom. We ended 5/8, but 8-10lb fish, smaller than last nights. Super fun night with some of our favorite people. We’re gonna go visit them in Texas so he can teach to to flats fish in the Gulf.

If the water moves at the rate it did today, the pierheads could well be icy in the next day or two. It was coming this way and the break was coming up.

For the PM guys, More adult fish on the graph on the way in and out than last night, but still not a bunch. On the way in thru the harbor and in channel, there were a million small fish on top, but there would be like one or two big fish on my screen at any time(and I have a big screen). Surface temp just outside pierheads was still 63 when we came in at 9:30pm. There were more boats fishing the pond today when we went out, and we did see one boat netting one in channel.

Taking tomorrow off the lake to go get my ribs tattooed all day. ☠️

Apologies for no recent reports. Some health issues had me sidelined for a couple weeks.

Seagull said all day that the cold water was near shore so we were gonna go fish the pierheads, but Ludington Legend Logan heard the pierheads sucked today. Windfinder said the lake was gonna be nice tonight. That too was a lie.

Going out, there were very few kings in the channel and harbor on the graph. Surface temp was still 65 outside the pierheads, which wasn’t the story Seagull was telling.

Logan wanted to fish 00s. We didn’t leave the dock til 6pm, and the ride out was real sloppy and slow. We were taking splash over the top a lot and the windshield wipers were going hard. The whole crew packed in the passenger front seat together instead of getting soaked. They were spread out, but they were sloppy.

We setup in 110. My Navionics that I usually use for navigation decided to crap out on me do I had no contour lines, and trying to adjust for current, we ended up out in like 150. It was pretty slow and the graph was pretty bare. I tried to get in shallower, but I was just kinda riding the north edge of the elbow there and it took longer to get back to 110 than I wished. Again, sloppy and crazy currents. We did take one nice 10lb-ish steelie out there.

We finally got back up close to the shelf in the 02s with 45 minutes left and we went 6/8 in that time. All nice fish Lots of bait and fish on graph. We had a quad on at one point. Meat and plugs took all the fish. All the fish were full of bait.

Great couple hours back on the water with good friends.

Took a ride up to the Manistee weir today. Very few fish at the dam. Weir itself is empty at the moment. I’ll post video...

Went and fished the bathhouse to the 05s for a couple hours with pur new neighbor. We fished 150-200’. Cold waters deep. It’s like 68degrees 75-80’ down. We went 3/7. Everything came on spinnies n flies or meat, and everything 95-100 down. Very mixed results at the cleaning station among boats. Couple real nice boxes tonight from boats in the sane water. Thanks to Capt Todd on Jackpot Charters and Capt Sean on Katch Me Charters the intel all day. If you’re going out, run flashers/paddles, and run em deep.

Edit: I feel like I should clarify since this post has got a lot of traffic, that it was kinda a joke. Don’t plan your weekend around Jamie taking a picture of one fish at the beach on Monday. The water’s p**s warm nearshore and the break is like 80-100’ down offshore.
