The National Football Association (NFA) is pleased to announce that Chris McClelland has signed on board as the Director of Officials for the NFA and its various divisions. McClelland wiill be working with Head of Officials Jerry Lovvorn to head up Referee University, a program designed to certify officials throughout the NFA's divisions and teach them the league's unique rules.
For five years, McClelland has officiated in his home state of Missouri for Missouri for MSHSAA high school, middle school and Mighty Mites football. During the most recent 1 1/2 years, McClelland has served as a semi-pro football official, mainly officiating at games for the Midwest Defenders of the Impact Developmental Football (IDFL) men's 8-man league.
"[Midwest Defenders owner] Daryl [Baker] and [Missouri Monarchs owner] Winston [Grimes] both reached out to me to help officiate for them this season," McClelland mused. "Though this old body of mine can't take it anymore, it's my honor to help train everyone who's going to officiate a game in this league going forward." Promoting player safety, official uniformity and more general knowledge of league rules are McClelland's three primary goals as Director of Officials. "We plan to have the officials have their mechanics down quickly, and are committed to the NAF officials looking and being professional in everything they do.
