Dear Paddle & Portage Participants and Volunteers,
We regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision not to hold the Paddle and Portage event. While we understand that this news will come as a disappointment, we want to assure you that we did not come to this decision lightly.
After reviewing participation numbers and associated costs, we believe that it would not be feasible to host the event this year. We would like to express our gratitude to all the participants, volunteers and sponsors who have enjoyed and given their time and resources for the success of this event.
So, while it is bittersweet to say goodbye to something that has been in the fabric of Madison for over 40 years, we find comfort in the memories, stories and history that have surround the Paddle and Portage event in Madison.

One of the craziest races you'll experience! Join fellow paddlers and runners in one of the longest standing events in Madison.
The event starts at Tenney Beach with a paddle in Lake Mendota. Participants then portage across the Isthmus through Tenney Park to the Yahara River. Once at the Yahara, it is a down river paddle to Lake Monona and ultimately the finish at Olbrich Park. Whether you are in it to win it or you are here for the party, there is something for everyone!

Aaaaargh! 🏴☠️
Congratulations to Ye Olde Team Black Pearl of Jade and Reece. They won best dressed in the 2022 Paddle and Portage Costume Contest. The best part is, they just came with spirit as they said they didn’t even know about the contest!
They took home some treasure: A $50 Rutabaga Paddlesports gift card, a $20 Luchador Madison gift card and a free entry into the 2023 Paddle and Portage!

🛶 Still need to pick up your bib, drop of your canoe/kayak/SUP, or register? Head to Tenney Park starting at 7:00am.
🚌 Shuttle busses will run from Olbrich to Tenney Park between 7:00 - 9:30am.

Don't Forget
💦 Reusable water bottles – be sure you fill them before you arrive. There will not be water available at the start or on the course.
