After 23 years, Khaki & Black closed its doors for the last time today. I know Joel would want me to thank all of you for your friendship and support over the years. His store brought him so much joy. He loved interacting with his customers and fellow retailers and he believed in Madison. He thrived on finding new and exciting brands and chose carefully, always keeping his customers in mind. I am so grateful to our amazing staff; Kirstin, Jane, Elizabeth, and Karolina, for their devotion and support. Thank you so much for your sharing your remembrances of Joel and how he touched your lives. It has meant a great deal to our family. I’d like to end with a quote from a children’s book, Madeline. I posted the same quote when I retired after many years of teaching. It seems equally appropriate today. “And she turned out the light and closed the door, and that’s all there is, there is no more.” I hope when you hear
the word “cool”, you’ll think of Joel. With much love to all...Nancy

We are very sad to share the news that we lost the owner and creator of Khaki & Black this week...the store was Joel’s passion for over 23 years, it was obvious how much he loved what he did every time you saw him in his store. He would have been happy to run the store for 23 more years if it had been up to him!
We know he thought of all his loyal customers as real friends and he appreciated each and every one of you. He will be deeply missed, especially by his family and friends. The town of Madison became a little less cool this week...
