Madison Area Sports Commission We make the connections to make successful sporting events happen in Madison. Our community is passionate about sports.

From youth soccer leagues to Big Ten football, Greater Madison is always abuzz with athletes and fans that adore any opportunity for a little healthy competition. Combine that with a geographically diverse landscape, and you've got a sweet setting for training and competing in a wide variety of sports. The Madison Area Sports Commission brings all of these diverse elements together for some of the most successful sporting events in the nation - USA Cycling National Championships, Ironman Wisconsin, The CrossFit Games and WIAA High School State Championships, just to name a few. Madison is ready to serve up a warm welcome to the athletes, coaches, families and fans who have arrived for the WIAA Girls Team Tennis State Tournament on October 23–24 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. 🎾

To every team taking the court: congratulations on making it to State! We’re proud to be part of your championship experience and can’t wait to see you make history.

🌟 Whitefish Bay won the first WIAA girls tennis team championship in 1971, with Nicolet and Wauwatosa West tying for second.

Championship events create traditions that stretch across generations, and we’re honored that the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) has a longstanding connection to Madison. We’re excited to continue the tradition on October 15–17 as our city welcomes the WIAA 2026 Girls Individual Tennis Championships!

🎾 The WIAA tournament program began in 1971, with Whitefish Bay winning the first championship which was also held at Whitefish Bay.

📆 Three years later, the State Meet moved to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. With the exception of 2020, it has called the venue home ever since.

🙌🏽 And among the many athletes in that history, only three have captured four State singles titles: Caitlin Burke of Cedarburg (1999-2002), Kaylan Caiati of Greendale (1999-2002) and Tami Whitlinger of Neenah (1983-86).

Last call! 🏒 🚨

Our signature Good Morning Sports series returns on Wednesday, October 14 at One Social Food Hall with Badgers men's hockey head coach Mike Hastings. Fresh off a Frozen Four appearance, Coach Hastings will share reflections on last season's remarkable run, insights into building a winning culture and a preview of what fans and supporters can expect this season.

Coach Hastings will be joined by Badgers hockey players Vasily Zelenov and Grady Deering!

Enjoy networking, coffee and pastries from 8:30–9 a.m. before the program begins.

Did you know?

⛳ There have been 11 hole-in-ones recorded in State Tournament history. The most recent was in 2024 by Prescott’s Lydia Feran!

🏌‍♀️Brookfield East’s Payton Haugen broke the Tournament’s 36-hole record when she shot a 132 during last year’s competition.

🚩 Madison’s Edgewood High School has won the most team championships with 16.

Madison's iconic IRONMAN weekend is here to stay. An extension will keep IRONMAN Wisconsin and IRONMAN Wisconsin 70.3 in Madison through 2030, continuing a 24-year tradition that brings elite competition, thousands of athletes and spectators, and $3.5 million in economic impact to Madison and Dane County.

To everyone who cheered from the sidelines, volunteered their time or helped welcome our visitors, thank you. What happens when Wisconsin's sports destinations and national event organizers come together in one place? A powerful reminder that relationships drive the future of sports tourism. 🤝🏅

Brandon Holstein of the Madison Area Sports Commission was proud to join fellow Sports Wisconsin destinations for the 2026 Sports Wisconsin FAM Tour & Rights Holder Summit in Appleton and the Fox Cities.

The experience brought together sports organizers from across the country and Wisconsin destination leaders for marketplace appointments, tours and networking.

Highlights included visits to the Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium and the Community First Champion Center, along with opportunities to connect with organizations such as USA Boxing, USA Hockey, USA Karate, the NCRHA - National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association and the Sports Events & Tourism Association.

Madison’s next generation of athletes is ready to move, grow and shine. 🌟

Twice a year, the Madison Area Sports Commission awards youth grants to local organizations that make sports opportunities accessible for the kids and families they serve. This summer, the MASC awarded eight organizations with a total of $13,145 to boost their programs!

Get to know this year’s winners and the people helping make sports more accessible across our community. We interviewed Janis P. Tupesis MD, board member of The LOVB Foundation and Nick Trentadue, president of the McFarland Youth Hockey Association to learn how this grant will benefit their programs.

The Madison Area Sports Commission and Destination Madison are excited to announce that Madison will host the 2031 United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Women’s Championships, one of the most prestigious and longstanding events in the sport of bowling!

📅 April through July 2031 at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes

🎳 The USBC Women’s Championships has been a cornerstone of competitive bowling for 110 years (since 1916).

📍 Bowl-A-Vard Lanes will be a first-time host for this national event and the first Midwest host since 2022.

🏆 On February 12, 1930, Plaza Alleys (formerly upstairs from what is now the Plaza Tavern on North Henry Street!) made bowling history when Madison’s Jennie Hoverson Kelleher bowled the first 300 game by a woman in sanctioned competition.

Unlike a traditional tournament that takes place over a single weekend, this championship will span nearly four months, bringing visitors from around the country to our premier sports city as an epicenter of bowling. We look forward to welcoming them!
