Stop Backwashing Your Pool Filter Multiple Times Per Week!

Did you know you can actually make your pool filter too clean? It sounds crazy, but backwashing your sand filter on a strict weekly schedule might be the exact reason your pool water is looking cloudy!

When a sand filter is completely clean, it loses some of its filtering efficiency. It actually needs a little bit of trapped debris to help catch the smaller particles. If you over-backwash it, fine dirt and dust will cycle right through the sand and shoot right back into your pool.

Find Your Baseline: After a backwash, check your pressure gauge. A clean filter usually sits between 10 to 15 PSI.

The 8-10 PSI Rule: Only backwash your filter when the pressure rises 8 to 10 pounds over your clean starting pressure.

Example: If your clean filter starts at 10 PSI, don't touch that backwash valve until it climbs up to 18 or 20 PSI!
