brings an enormous amount to Foundations. A curious student, patient teacher, selfless coach and example to our competitors, Blake relentlessly seeks improvement in all aspects of Jiu Jitsu. He has long been an asset to our crew, and it is our pleasure to award him this well-earned Brown Belt

It is always nice keeping up with former Foundations students to see where life has taken them. In the spirit of the season, , one of the old guard from our time at The Neighborhood House, deserves extra recognition that he wouldn’t give himself. Matt was a valued member of Foundations in its first incarnation, and since moving back to New York has (in addition to being awarded a well-deserved Purple Belt from ) demonstrated a giving spirit and fundraising skills that bring us equal parts pride and humility. In the last 12 months, Matt has raised more than $125,000 for , including significant contributions from Addidas and .official. There are many that wish to instantiate social impact. But it’s not an easy task. It has been amazing watching Matt have the vision and tenacity to help change lives through martial arts in this way. Keep up the amazing work 🙏🏾

Foundations Youth and Family classes offer a unique opportunity for parents/caregivers to be on the mats with their kids. There are a number of reasons we have structured our program this way. From the benefit of a shared activity to the ability to have a wider range of ages safely on the mat, we have found this to be an approach that works well for us, and fits with the overall vibe Foundations. One last promotion this year. has improved dramatically since joining us in 2021. A diligent learner, Chuck is a near constant presence at the gym, and we are lucky to count him amongst our ranks. We are pleased to be able to award him this well deserved Purple Belt

Closing out the year with a banger! Foundations is thrilled to announce its final seminar of the year, a special visit from our good friend and multiple-time World Champion, Emily Kwok.

It is not an overstatement to say that Emily’s advice over the years has substantially influenced the direction of Foundations, and we are honored to be able to host her in our new space.

Foundations is super excited to announce our next seminar, and the first in our new space, a visit from Checkmat standout Adam Wardzinski. Adam has been a force at the highest levels of competition for some time, and we are eager to learn some of his amazing butterfly guard technique from him. This seminar is at 6pm on Monday, July 22nd, is open to all affiliations, and is strictly limited to 40 attendees

For the first 5 years of Foundations, we were located inside The Neighborhood House Community Center. Since our return in 2021, we kept things going inside of strength.

Both of these locations were wonderful homes to us, and we are thankful for our time at them. But the time has come for us to open our own space.

We are extremely pleased to announce that in April, Foundations will move to 600 Williamson Street, immediately next door to the original location where many of us originally started training BJJ.

In addition, this location will serve as the new home for our friends at . Combined memberships will be available.

Lots of things planned. We’ll be sharing more details as we get closer.
