This week’s fish are a bit shorter than last week’s fish but with a beautiful dark edging to the fins under their body and have beautiful red eyes like the fish two weeks ago which helps with the ID. The spawning bed is on a rocky or weedy shallow bottom and eggs go from spheres to a cloaking in white material as they mature. The male keeps it well defended. They typically grow 6–10 inches long, though larger individuals can exceed a pound they are opportunistic predators, feeding on insects, crayfish, and small fish. And they often hover close to structure where they can dart out to ambush prey. Get out there and enjoy our beautiful local fish!

The first Thursday Night Fun Dive of the season took place last week! We stayed local and dove from Shorewood Boathouse in Lake Mendota. Want to get out and go diving and meet new buddies? Join us - 4PM every week - the location will change depending on water clarity and conditions. Just call ahead and let us know that you're interested, and we'll let you know the dive site and logistics. Yes, rentals are reduced rate, but you will want to plan to pick up gear ahead of the dive.

Congratulations to Terry for earning his TDI Advanced Mixed Gas CCR rating over the weekend. This certification allows him to dive to 300 feet! He experienced some ear issues last year on his first attempt at the course. His buddy Roland was able to finish but returned this year to support Terry! That's what friends are for!

Andy and Tehya joined us for a Scuba Review! Sometimes it just takes a second to shake off the dust and all the skills come back- no problem!

We organize refresher courses in conjunction with the weekends that we rent the pool for the confined water training exercises. Whether it's been a few months or a couple years- Scuba Review is a great course to bring back your confidence with the gear and with your skills.
