A little birdie told us that our Divemaster Gayle Orner received the National Speleological Society - Cave Diving Section (NSSCDS) Henry Nicholson Safe Cave Diving Award!!! The award was presented to her at the Midwest Cave Diving Conference in Waynesville, Missouri back on September 26!!

The Nicholson Award is presented for 500 safe cave dives following completion of training. Well done, Gayle!

Congratulations to Hayden for completing the last dives of his PADI Drysuit Specialty certification! We had fun diving at Piquette last Sunday. After finishing his skills he helped us cut weeds in the pond as we start the clean up heading into cave diving season. These hand scythes cut through the aquatic weeds like butter!

Remember if you are looking for a drysuit course yet this fall, just let us know. We have quite a few rental suits that fit most sizes. We're happy to offer semi-private courses scheduled for your convenience!

These bold, highly territorial Caribbbean reef fish are common across the Caribbean where it dominates shallow coral and rubble habitats. Its name comes from the three dark, rounded spots on the body—one at the base of the tail and two on the pectoral fin bases—set against a yellow brown to olive body that becomes darker as the fish matures. Juveniles are especially striking, with bright electric blue edging on their fins and a more vivid golden coloration. They are notorious “algal farmers”: they cultivate and aggressively defend patches of filamentous algae, chasing away much larger fish that try to graze in their territory. This behavior shapes local reef ecology, sometimes even influencing coral growth. During breeding, males clear nest sites and guard eggs until hatching. Their assertive nature and distinctive markings make these one of the most recognizable—and feistiest—small fish on Caribbean reefs. Anyone care to guess their name?

Last week Denby began his rebreather training! We rebuilt this new-to-him KISS Spirit CCR, stripping off many of the modifications installed by the previous owner returning it to the "Keep It Seriously Simple" design. He completed his first dives as his buddy Tom was finishing up the last of his. These guys are hoping to keep each other motivated adding hours and experience so they can earn more advanced ratings next season.

Big congratulations to Tom for earning his TDI Air Diluent CCR rating on the KISS Classic rebreather! WOOOO!

Tom already holds an Advanced Trimix Diver card for open circuit diving that allows him to dive to 300 feet. So he has decided that he's coming back in a couple weeks to upgrade his just earned rebreather rating to Helitrox Diluent CCR so that he can continue to put hours on his rebreather and still get out in late season to the shipwrecks in the Milwaukee area that he loves!

Kim and Megan were co-teaching open water certification dives at Pearl Lake this last weekend. Here are some snap shots that were taken of the group gearing up on Saturday!

Temps are cooling down but there's still 2 more weekends of diving at Pearl before the season ends. Remember we're offering $35 rental rates for the next two weeks for those wanting to get in a bit more practice!
