Uechi-ryu Karate-do Seiryokai

This saying from Karate Viewpoints is so true. Once we have earned the rank of a black belt, we become a whole new level of a beginner since it's a different mentality. We would continue to think what would be the best technique to use and how to improve it. Like my instructor alway says, it's just another belt color. It used to be white and black belts only, not the in between colors. Therefore, once we reached the black belt level, it's just like we are starting out as a beginner since it's time for us to think to improve each move. As an owner/instructor at Gruber’s Karate, as a 6th degree black belt, I am still learning. No one is perfect.

The latest kata our black belts are working on! Giken kata is not part of the 8 kata traditionally taught in Uechi-ryu, and while it introduces a few techniques not seen in other kata, it’s still a very Uechi kata.
