Huge congrats to on earning his Purple Belt ๐ŸŽ‰ ! Justin was a long-term Blue Belt, putting him in very good company on these mats - working hard and consistently to reach that next level. Iโ€™d be remiss not to mention that Justin seems to have lived many lives in this one, and has persevered and come out on top of ups and downs that would level most men. His consistency, composure, and character are evident every day. He has also brought his two daughters into Jiu-Jitsu, making it a family affair! We look forward to many more years of training and growing together!

I once again dropped the ball on securing a team photo at the most recent IBJJF Open. , .norbe, and also put in great work for the team. Everyone did really well at this Open, meeting new challenges and improving on their past performances. Everyone talks about competition as a means to โ€œtest their Jiu-Jitsu,โ€ but any given competition is a mere snapshot that doesnโ€™t necessarily capture our growth and overall skillset. We should instead be looking at each performance, win or lose, with a critical and appreciative eye towards how we can improve - while also celebrating our successes. This includes the successes found even (or especially!) in losses. Iโ€™m really proud of everyone who competed this weekend, and look forward to seeing you all continue to improve and put yourselves out there. The road to World Masters continues!

๐Ÿฅ‹In just three weeks will be here sharing his incredible Spider Lasso game. Kevinโ€™s accolades are too many to list here (thatโ€™s BJJ Heroes job!), but heโ€™s an active competitor and academy owner operating at the highest levels of the sport.

In the contemporary Jiu-Jitsu scene - especially for the chronically online - too many people are focused on the wrong things: the big names, the big drama, the โ€œcelebrities,โ€ the highlight reels, the likes, the clicks; and a lot of really incredible athletes, instructors, coaches, and leaders are left unsung.

I love bringing high level Jiu-Jitsu to Madison, but I also love supporting good people who have healthy perspectives and walk like they talk. Real people who love Jiu-Jitsu for the sake of Jiu-Jitsu. Kevin Mahecha is the real deal: a high level athlete, coach, and academy owner who focuses on the right things. A healthy mindset, technical approach, and good culture. Iโ€™m so excited to be hosting him next month and I hope to see you all there!
