Well, I knew I’d get around to making this post..
This past weekend we attended the IHRA Pro Mod Mania for their RWYB class. We had an idea there wouldn’t be many cars and knew we needed to get some more data, so we threw our stuff together and made the short trip up to Milan.
The week leading up to the race we tore the motor apart to polish out some minor issues, do our regular service, and get it ready to race.
Our first pass we went 3.83 at 180, but we blew the burst panel at 550ft and lost complete fuel pressure at 3.2 seconds into the run.
Looking back at the data, we were on a low 3.70/high 3.60 pass. We get back to our pit and found everything to be healthy and intact.
But something just wasn’t right.
We get everything buttoned back up and head up to the lanes for Q2. Dad does his burnout, backs up and shuts off because he noticed he had no oil pressure…
We get back to our pit and decided we need to crack this thing open and see what’s going on. I drained the oil and noticed a lot of inconsistency in the oil. I dip my finger into the drain pan and pull out what was left of a blue shop rag.
Lone behold, I take a peak into the valley of the motor from the head, and there lies the culprit.
We pull the blower and intake off and the images below show what was left of 2-3 blue shop rags after almost a full pass and a burnout.
If it weren’t for noticing the car had no oil pressure, we’d probably be in a lot rougher shape.
Safe to say this silly mistake will never happen again. But on the bright side, not many guys can say they went 3.83 at 180 with a bunch of rags in their motor 🤣🤣
We ended up thrashing through the night on Friday to get everything cleaned up but ended up going out in the semis on Saturday.
At the end of the day, we didn’t hurt anything and all we can do is sit back and laugh. Time to get ready for IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series at Milan in July!
