It is always fun to have students attend their first IBF Taikai and experience getting to meet so many fellow members and senior instructors. We had three first timers at this weekend’s event - John and Katie from our San Jose, CA study group and Joe from our Texas dojo. Everyone trained hard and learned a lot. And congratulations to Katie and Joe for receiving their Shodan - testing in front of Takano sensei is always tough!

Day one of the Las Vegas Taikai featured seminars in Toyama Ryu Battodo, Araki Muninsai Ryu, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, and Shinshin Ryu. That’s a lot of budo.

Sending out a big congratulations to Keyan Jafari and San Diego Iai Batto for putting on a hugely successful event in Las Vegas. This was Keyan’s vision 2 years ago and he pulled off a great event with the help of the entire San Diego crew (Yoshi, Sherry, David, Alyse, Jodee, Tim, Bob, Hyacinth, Cliff and many others I’m sure). Two days of seminars featuring fantastic instructors in many different styles, culminating in a full day of spirited competition. The amount of time and energy spent to support the Japanese sword community is greatly appreciated. Congrats Keyan!
