This undated photo shows the Dodson to Zortman Stage in front of the Dodson Livery Company, in Dodson, Montana.
In 1907, the Dodson Livery and Feed Barn was owned by Elijah Ereaux, and boasted "First-class rigs at all times" with a corral for the use of farmers and freighters, and a new barn.
Later that year, the Little Rockies Miner wrote that the "whole distance between Dodson and Zortman has an excellent road" and it was only 40 miles between the two. "Frank Warren, who is now running a passenger and express wagon between the two points, makes the drive to Zortman in about eight hours, and the return drive in about seven hours. Frank drives a four-in-hand and is a regular old stager. He has provided a station half way between the two points where a change of teams is made and where the hungry may feed to their hearts' content and the appetite's satisfaction."
The towns are about 45 miles apart.

Did the sunset seem especially red and hazy tonight? That was due to the smoke in the atmosphere from wildfires in Montana, Idaho, Washington and British Columbia. On this GOES-16 image this afternoon, you can see the smoke plumes from the fires with smoke spreading east into the Dakotas, then south across the Great Plains into Oklahoma and Texas.
