🎣 The river is waking up! Fred Truex boxed his first fluke limit of the season on the Manasquan River — no monsters, but steady keepers and good short action on light jigs with Gulp. Plus, our River Fluke Tournament made the Coast Star: new member Scott Crosson took top honors with a 19.5-inch, 2.36-lb fluke, and young Carter Mooney's bluefin got some ink too!

🎣 The next generation is hooked! Club president Paul Shafer took his two grandsons (ages 6 and 3) out on the river for their first-ever fluke — and they each caught their own. Biggest went 17-1/2 inches, just shy of keeper size. Proud papa was on fish-holding duty for the pictures.

🎣 Big week offshore! Chris Jewell ran 94 miles to the Hudson Canyon and put a serious haul of tuna on the dock — heaviest 62.5 lbs. "Good day. Very tired."

When the Manasquan railroad bridge got stuck in the down position in the July heat, the fleet had no choice but to wait it out. Sean Wohltman caught the flotilla — head boats and all — anchoring up outside until the span finally lifted around 8 PM. Just another day on the Squan!

🦀 The blue crab clinic paid off fast! One day after President Paul Shafer's "Life of a Blue Crab" talk at the July meeting, Frank Cuccio put the lessons to work on the 4th — a trap full of blue claws, a bucket to show for it, and a jumbo stretching the tape past 6 inches. As one member put it: "Whoa! Crabasaurus!!"

🎣 Congratulations to Our 2026 Manasquan Fishing Club Scholarship Recipient, JD Carton! 🎣

The Manasquan Fishing Club is proud to recognize JD Carton as the recipient of our annual scholarship.

Each year, the club awards a scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is an active member of a high school fishing club and demonstrates excellence both on and off the water. Applicants are evaluated on criteria including academic achievement, leadership, community service, and a genuine passion for fishing.

JD exemplifies those qualities. As President of the Manasquan High School Fishing Club, he has shown outstanding leadership while maintaining strong grades, giving back through volunteer work, and pursuing a lifelong love of fishing.

We are honored to support young anglers like JD as they take the next step in their education and wish him continued success in college and beyond.

Congratulations, JD. We know you’ll make us proud!
