Tempered Minds We are a martial arts school of thought. "Many are stubborn in pursuit of the path they have chosen, few in pursuit of the goal." - Nietzsche So, what is this?

This is the tree that grew from a seed planted in February 1989, when I threw my first low block and unknowingly became a martial artist. Martial arts helped me become who I am. I’ve had the privilege of learning from and training with some of the best minds the world has to offer. I owe it to them and the generations who came before me to pass on what I’ve learned from them and what I’ve learned myself. This is a way for me to do that. This is not a brick and mortar martial arts school and this is not a martial arts business. I have no schools and I have no students. This is a martial arts school of thought. It’s a way for me to share my unique perspective and grow as others help me to challenge my hypotheses. It’s not much but it’s a start.

This weekend I had the privilege of giving a Haidong Gumdo Seminar to Grandmaster Klinedinst's students at UTA Karate Manchester.

28 students from white belt to 3rd dan shared the floor to learn the fundamentals of HDGD, including the first form, and paper cutting.

Congratulations to everyone who attended! You all did incredibly well and demonstrated true choshim (beginner's mindset).

Thank you, Grandmaster Klinedinst for the opportunity for me to spend a weekend with such outstanding martial artists!

The 15th Mexican National / 5th All-American Open Championship was incredible. At most tournaments, you compete against other people but here you compete with them. The camaraderie and support for each other on and off the competition floor is outstanding. Thank you Master Kim Yang Tae for hosting such a fantastic event!

Huge thanks to my Mexican Family - with special shout-outs to Christian Orozco, Mariana OS, Raul Beltran. Thank you for ensuring we had reliable transportation, great coffee, great food, and excellent company during what is arguably the most stressful part of your year.

And of course huge thanks to my team - Marshall Parnell, Heidi Jones, and Thomas Salls. Thank you for sharing this adventure with me and representing the United States so well. It was an experience that can't be beat.
