With it’s stunning beach and consistent, year-round surf, Manhattan Beach is the best location in Los Angeles to take a surf lesson. Los Angeles Magazine listed El Porto and Campsurf in their August 2009 “Best of LA” issue as the “Best Beach for New Surfers“. All of our lessons emphasize safety and fun, but we also take the next step and teach our students to view the ocean with a surfer’s eye so they can safely and confidently ride waves on their own. Our professional surf instructors have taught thousands of students and can assess and address bad techniques so students can improve and move forward on their surfing path. All of our surf lessons and surf camps include the use of quality surfboards and Body Glove wetsuits and we are well stocked in all sizes of both. All of our instructors are CPR and First-Aid Certified and are experienced surfers and watermen. Our staff consists of former owner of Peninsula Surf Shop, Chris Brown, top competitive surfer and local standout, Tommy Ostendorf and Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation Director, Mark Gerold, who have almost 15 years experience teaching with us. Our crew also includes professional surfers Jamie Meistrell, Chris Wells and Kelly Zaun, Tavarua lifeguard and boatman Jason Napolitano, the #1 rated surfer in the NSSA college division, Dayton Silva, as well as long-time head instructor Taylor Hein. All of our instructors bring their surf culture and stoke to our students through proven teaching techniques.
