After YEARS of blood, sweat, tears, training, success, and failure… it’s finally here.

ARTIST IN TRAINING

Inside you will find twelve weeks’ worth of unique workouts curated specifically with the lifestyle of a performer in mind. As a performer myself, I understand firsthand the intensity of what is being asked of you – both mentally and physically – in every step of your career. The pressure of auditioning for college programs, the hustle that comes with auditioning in New York, the fast paced nature of a summer stock contract, the demanding rehearsal and performance schedule of a swing/standby, navigating the stamina required to get through eight shows a week, the inconsistency that comes with touring… And as if all of that wasn’t demanding enough, you are expected to maintain the physical ability to perform at your highest level every step of the way. HELLO? That’s a lot.

This program is designed to guide you through a flexible routine that will help you develop strength in your physical performance while maintaining the mental stamina to achieve the physically demanding tasks required of you as a performer.

Once purchased you will receive an email in 24 hours with a link to a downloadable PDF containing all programming.

Have you ever built up the motivation to workout but then just spent hours scrolling through YouTube videos trying to figure out which type of workout you should do?

Scroll through to break down the pros and cons of a few different modalities of training: bodyweight vs bands vs weight.

“But how do I know which modality is right for me?”

Each modality is designed to accommodate specific physical goals. So take a minute to assess what your goals are and go from there. Not even sure where to begin when setting goals? I got you - let’s talk through that process together!

All IOP programming begins with a “pre-performance” exercise. Pre-performance is a series of written exercises designed to help you set meaningful physical goals based on your core values. Identifying and putting words to our deepest beliefs, serves as a powerful motivator to help you discover your full performance potential as you challenge both your physical and mental capabilities. You become what you give power to. Based on these goals we can build a personalized program utilizing the modalities that best suit your goals.

IOP fam, comment your favorite modality below!

One year ago, began his journey with IOP. Swipe to see his INCREDIBLE progress.

I will admit, I am not a fan of sharing progress photos - but looking at these two photos that were taken a year apart from each other was too good not to share. What struck me most about these two photos was not only the obviously incredible physical transformation, but the energetic, inner transformation Julian has taken on. I mean look at him, he is literally GLOWING!

Not only has Julian put in the work physically, but he has put in the work mentally. Through his commitment to his physical self, he has unlocked his inner strength. Throughout his IOP journey, Julian found healing at a time where he was feeling anxious, confused, and lost. Through his commitment to his physical self, he realized the only person standing in the way of his goals was himself. Together, we took baby steps to over come that mental blockade and reinvigorate his inner power and strength.

I am so, so proud of you, Jubes. You took a chance on yourself, you committed to something that seemed nearly impossible in the beginning and you exceeded all of your goals and expectations. Your journey is truly inspiring - not only to me, but to everyone around you.

Today, Inside Out Performance, celebrates you, Julian!

With love,
Your IOP fam 💚

I know am I am not alone in saying this year plus, has rocked us to the core. As people, as a country, as an arts community. With no rehearsal or show schedule, no audition to prepare for, no stable source of income, no friends to squeeze at the stage door, no applause, I find myself just trying to take the days as they come.

There are days that feel like I am living an out of body experience as I watch the shell of myself live out it’s daily routine. Days that I feel so pressured by the hours I spend on social media to be or do or say or act like someone I know I am not. Days that I want nothing more than to get off the couch, finally respond to that text, or start that new project but my spiraling thoughts tell me otherwise. Days that appear to be hugely successful to anyone looking in, but actually broke me. Days that my wheels spin endlessly but with no end goal anywhere in sight. Days that make me question what your purpose is.
✖️
Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we as an arts community acknowledge and actively take care of our mental health. The stigma surrounding mental health only exists because there is a general lack of understanding about mental health conditions and how they effect our daily lives. I find release and clarity through movement, so please join us this Wednesday if you would like to do so as well.
✖️
All are welcome, pay what you can. Proceeds will be donated to NAMI-NYC. helps families and individuals affected by mental illness build better lives through education, support, and advocacy.

I might burst your bubble by saying this, but dance classes and rehearsals alone are not enough to maintain the longevity of your performance career.

Let’s break down why this is : How many times have you gone into an audition for a summer stock theater and been asked to learn a ballet combo, then a jazz combo, then a tap combo AND THEN were asked if you could tumble…?

In order to even make it onto the stage, performers need to have the capacity to perform a LARGE variety of styles for an extended period of time, all which require a different range of motion. One minute you need controlled external rotation during Fouetté’s and need solid shoulder stability for a handstand the next. Not only do performers need substantial physical strength, we also need a high level of cardiovascular stamina to get through auditions and performances. Research into the cardiovascular fitness of dancers has told us that dance class and rehearsals alone are not sufficient stimuli to train the cardiovascular system to meet the demands of performance.

Benefits of cross training for a performer’s longevity:
✖️Prevents injury
✖️Improves neuromuscular control
✖️Reduces muscle imbalances developed after years of repetitive dance motions
✖️Increases strength of underused muscles
✖️Improves range of motion and mobility
✖️Reduces stress and boosts mood

Not convinced yet? Here’s what some of the IOP Fam has to say about incorporating PERFORMANCE READY workouts into their performance schedules:

“It is a perfect supplement to my college classes. I do the On-Demand workouts on the days I don’t have dance class and already am seeing a difference in my technique”

“I love how quick the classes are, but still really really effective. I am starting to take dance classes pretty religiously again and I am surprised at how much my stamina has improved, I feel so strong - It’s awesome!!”

The IOP Fam has spoken.

Pursuing a career as a performer is fu***ng hard. period. You are surrounded by constant rejection. It gets to you. I often convince myself that I do not possess the skills to perform at a certain level. I put a limit on myself. I doubt myself. I procrastinate because I don’t think I am qualified or know enough. I tell myself that what I am doing isn’t important and doesn’t matter. I tell myself someone else can do it better than me, so why am I even trying.

Performance Ready was born out of this place of self-doubt. One day, I got myself ready to complete my workout as I usually do and I was STRUGGLING to get through reps. I wasn’t focused, the negative talk going on inside my head was truly crazy. I put the weight down and sat myself down for a little pep talk (I am laughing out loud thinking about how quickly I turned into an NBA basketball coach who is down by two points in the last few seconds and pulls out some inspiration during the final timeout to come back and win the game). I literally said out loud to myself “You are enough. You do enough. Don’t let anyone rush you. You are meant to do this. You matter. What you do matters.”

I picked the weight back up and with every rep I repeated one of those phrases out loud to myself. I had to hear it (x10000) to believe it - to really accept it and whole heartedly believe in my own capabilities and accomplishments. I bet my mom was laughing at me upstairs listening to me scream affirmations at myself in the basement, BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. I felt so good, I still feel so good.

Often times, we are our worst critics. Our own thoughts about ourselves limit what we are capable of. We downplay how great we are and all that we have achieved. And in turn we stand in the way of our own greatness. Let’s not do this anymore, okay? We deserve better from ourselves. Sit yourself down, find your inner NBA coach, and tell yourself you are capable of anything. Because you are. You become what you give power to.

Recently, have you FINALLY found the inspiration to get yourself into a dance class or acting class or voice lesson, but just given up on yourself halfway through because you weren’t perfect and you felt inadequate and you left questioning why you even went in the first place? Cause same.
✖️
I recently left a dance class feeling like s**t because I couldn’t get my leg above 90, I kept noticing the extra pounds I have put on while looking in the mirror, I was sooo tight during the warm up, my ankles were wildly wobbly in my heels…. the list goes on and on. I left class asking myself if I had lost all ability as a dancer. As dramatic as that sounds, I was so consumed by all the negative thoughts in my head that I truly felt like I would never go back to the dancer I was before the pandemic.
✖️
And guess what? THAT IS PROBABLY FOR THE BETTER. What?!?!? In that moment I was reminded of this conversation I had with Dr. Megan Wise. “You have not lost your potential, you have not lost your ability to improve, your ability to be a good dancer or a good performer. You have only lost your ‘current’ ability”. Read that again (and again and again and again).
✖️
Your ability as a dancer or a performer is innate. It has not, and will not go away. In this moment in time we have a unique opportunity to improve upon our abilities in a way we have not been afforded in the past - we have the time, our bodies (and our minds) have rested from the intensity of the hustle, and with IOP’s Performance Ready programming we have the tools to do so.
✖️
Raise your hand in the comments if you are ready to rediscover your performance potential 👋🏻🙋🏼‍♀️
