Over the next few weeks Yooper Fitness would like to take the time to introduce you to our trainer community! We had our trainers fill out a question-and-answer survey so you can get to know them a little better.
First up is our newest hire Andon:
1. What got you interested in fitness and personal training?
My fitness journey began in high school as I played football for many years. Once my time was done with sports, I developed a passion for exercise and resistance training. That then led me to wanting to help people get started on their fitness journey, improving their fitness journey, and helping athletes get faster, stronger, and better in all aspects.
2. What is your personal training philosophy?
When it comes to training, I believe simple, safe movements are effective. The body moves in the same few patterns every day. So, the goal is to train those patters to increase strength but also increase overall function in those daily movements. With training, there needs to be a certain level of effort given. The goal is to work as hard as the body and mind can, while also being safe as that is the main concern. My role is to give someone the instruments necessary to achieve their goals, while also relaying knowledge to them. The more we know, the better and safer we can train.
3. What is one thing you wish every gym member knew?
One thing I wish every gym member knew and understood is that everyone starts at the same point. Some may have started sooner or later, but they all began trying to learn the same movements within their first week or two. So, do not be intimidated or frightened to try new things, as we’ve all been down that route.
4. What is your favorite exercise to train, and why?
My favorite exercise to train is an incline dumbbell chest press. It’s my favorite exercise to target the upper chest muscle. I’m able to feel a better contraction with dumbbells compared to a barbell.
5. FUN QUESTION: What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
If I’m not at the gym, I’m on a job site either pouring concrete or laying blocks!
