If you can make this a life long pursuit, it will be worth more than all the medals, trophies, and belts combined.

Congratulations to our newest blue belt KIERSTEN ARMSTRONG

Kiersten had been dropping into the gym for a while before becoming a full-time member. After my first roll with him, I knew his ceiling was extremely high.

I entered him into the blue belt division in his last tournament as a white belt and he cleaned house, I don’t even think he had one point scored on him. I honestly think he would even do well at the purple belt level currently, but we will let him build some momentum at blue first.

I appreciate his attention to detail, the trust in our instruction, and how safe of a roll he is despite his size. There is a lot of gold in this man’s future, looking forward to tapping into that potential.

Big thank you to my sharks as always:

Dump - while we have “Jiujitsu” in our DBA, we are a true grappling academy, competing often in gi and nogi jiu-jitsu, folkstyle and freestyle wrestling, and judo. I have had offers to add striking and MMA programs, but have chosen to stay 100% focused on our grappling arts.

I have completed my last travels of the year, and wrestling season is fast approaching. Those who know me understand how important it is to me to attend our wrestler’s matches. Once I get dual meet and tournament schedules, I will finalize our new weekly class schedule so that I can still teach the bulk of the classes. I am always grateful to our staff of coaches who do so much to lighten my load each wrestling season, my favorite and most exhausting time of year!

Additionally, I will be coaching at the Oswego Jiu Jitsu Super Fight card tomorrow. Jeff Standish has a couple tickets left if anyone would like to come watch some jiu-jitsu.

Congratulations to our newest brown belt Jacky

Jacky is our most consistent athlete which helps explain the huge expansion in skill the past 4 years. He always works hard yet is safe for anyone to train with, and consciously trains to get better rather than to “win” in the training room.

Personally, he is one of my favorite rolls, making me and everyone else in the room a better. I am very happy to tie this brown belt on him. Congrats, Jacky!

If you DIDN’T know better, you are ignorant and lack house training. Annoying to deal with but forgivable.

If you DID know better but did it anyways, you are rude, entitled to other’s personal space, and trespassing.

Immediate and permanent ban.

Great training with our Professor Eddie Avelar in Texas! Learned a new shoulder lock that I have never seen before, reminds me of a PD power half.

We will be collaborating with Shane Manley to bring Eddie to Syracuse early 2027 for a seminar and Shane manley jujitsu ‘s first degree, stay tuned!

Congratulations to our newest purple belt, Ms. Audrey.

We are proud of her steady improvement in the past couple years, especially the jumps in her wrestling skills. A staple in our women’s program, a helper in our kids classes, a fierce competitor, and despite being the smallest athlete in the room we have never heard one complaint from her.

Thank you for all your hard work, Audrey!
