The Mansfield Knights are hosting a collegiate style tryout on Monday, June 30 and those interested in DasCHE Spartans Baseball are invited to attend. We will record each athlete’s measurables such as time in the 60, broad jump and vertical leap numbers, throwing velo, exit velo, and agility drill times. We will also work on individual defensive and offensive skills along with a scrimmage with live pitching. The Knights will email results along with suggested baseline scores based on grade level. We will also include some suggested drills and training to help close the gap on areas of weakness. For those interested in participating in the Spartans Baseball program, we highly encourage you to attend this event.

Talent gets you noticed. Mental toughness takes you to the next level. That’s the difference between being good and becoming great.

5 powerful exercises every athlete should practice daily to build mental toughness:

🔥 1. Reframing Negative Thoughts
Your thoughts drive your performance. If you constantly tell yourself, “I suck right now,” how will that help you? Instead, practice reframing:
❌ Negative Thought: “I always mess up.”
✅ Reframed Thought: “Mistakes help me improve. Let’s focus on the next play.”

The ability to shift negative thoughts into productive ones separates mentally tough athletes from those who crumble under pressure.

🧘 2. Mindfulness for Focus & Control
A scattered mind leads to inconsistent performance. Training mindfulness helps you stay locked in on the present moment, letting go of past mistakes and future worries. Try:

Mindfulness Meditation: Focus on your breath for 5+ minutes daily.
Mindful Walks: Turn a simple walk into a focus exercise by concentrating on your breathing.
🎯 3. Self-Evaluation for Growth
Mentally tough athletes reflect without self-judgment. Every day, ask yourself:
✅ What did I do well today?
✅ What can I learn from today?

This helps you build resilience, move past mistakes faster, and continuously improve.

👁️ 4. Mental Rehearsal for Confidence
Visualization is a game-changer. When you mentally rehearse yourself succeeding—whether it's executing a perfect shot or responding to a mistake with confidence—you build trust in your abilities.

Before your next game, close your eyes and visualize yourself performing at your best. The mind doesn’t know the difference between real and imagined success!

🎯 5. Performance Objectives for Laser Focus
Instead of worrying about results, set performance objectives—small, controllable goals for each practice and game.

Example: “Today, I will focus on quick decision-making and staying aggressive.”
When your mind is focused on controllables, distractions fade, and mental toughness rises.
