The Mako Malo Fishing Team began its new operations. The team is now fishing from its new operational facility in Marathon Fl. Our target was Black grouper prior to the January 1st closure.
This trophy black grouper was caught on a live yellow tail snapper off some deeper ledges in over 100 ft of depth. Ocean conditions were 3 to 5 ft seas with a 15 to 20 knot wind from the ENE.
This was our inaugural trip. Much local planning took place to find this particular fishing ground. Extensive chart and bottom studies were made so to guarantee a succesful trip.
On board the trip was Ana my wife...Andy Silvers and his Ms Diane.
Stay tunned for many more fishing updates as we continue our new fishing platform in 2019
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL...

Part of a succesful day of offshore fishing is the play on the weather. Check out the leading edge of the squall line below and note the warm air rising and the cold air sinking. This creates the drop in barometric pressure. Fish will react to these conditions and aggresively feed. So play your weather right. Today on board the Mako Malo III was Capt Jeffrey Martinez-Malo and fishing veteran David Kaplan. Limited out along with landing some 25 to 30 lbs Mahi Mahi. Fish lit up 12 to 15 miles off Miami during the early morning storms. Tight Lines and good fishing..Capt Jeff

The bite before the cold front....we limited out today on an aggresive yellow tail bite. Todays unique conditions triggered a good bite on the bottom. The moon was in a waning cresent cycle and set at 1:22 pm today. Fish bite hard when the moon sets in the day. This coupled with the cold front coming our way tonight (dropping the barometric pressure) triggered some ferocious bottom action. In addition to our yellow tail snapper.... the groupers (in conservation till late spring) were also on fire....all released to see another day.....tight lines and good fishing Captian Jeff...
