Some people describe the Colorado River at Lees Ferry as "the world's largest spring creek.". In reality, it's a massive, clear-running tailwater fishery running 15.5 miles from the outflow of Lake Powell at Glen Canyon Dam to the upper end of the Grand Canyon. Indeed, at times it gives the impression of being not one or two, but a series of parallel spring creek-like crystal waterways....a short run that sweeps past a large rock; a 500 yard long stretch that follows the old river channel; or a long glide where rainbows lurk to take midges. To the uninitiated, fly-fishing the Colorado River at Lees Ferry is like casting to a needle in a haystack. With a rainbow at the end of the line.

We urge you to sign and share this petition, encouraging the Department of Interior to resume and continue the Glen Canyon Dam water mixing and cooling program, essential for preserving the Lees Ferry Trout fishery. The petition deadline for submission is Tuesday, 7/14.

Time is of the essence. The river water temperatures increased the past 2 weeks from 60 to 67 degrees. Unless something is done soon the water is projected to reach 75 degrees and the trout will not survive.

A bit of flyfishing history right here... the bead-head zebra midge is a fly that is used worldwide for trout fishing. This fly was invented and developed right here at Lees Ferry and tied by Ted Welling. Ted passed a few years back but this iconic fly will insure his legacy lives forever.
