I said we were close! I was right! First I would like to thank AZ Wolfpack organization, they have been nothing short of exemplary in kindness, sportsmanship, and support! We finally got over the hump and had 2 wins today. That’s right, our first hardware and it looks nice. Thank you to NCS and National Premier for another amazing tournament. Now… these athletes righted the ship and played their butts off today. Couldn’t be any more proud. I don’t have enough characters for this post to detail every amazing play we had. You just had to be there. I will take a second to highlight my trio of La Macanas! Ki, Arden, and Ava, you have me sitting here like a proud Padre. Thank you, I enjoyed every second of watching you “Athletes” compete. Torin, thank you for coming through and helping us to victory. Everyone expects your big arm and bat, but you impressed me today with your glove and sheer hustle. Now, I didn’t get to it in the moment, but TATE HAMILTON… you came to play sir! Amazing performance sir! Special thank you to all my parents that make this possible. Let’s relish this today, but the party doesn’t stop, we’re back to work tomorrow.

I’ve learned that before any breakthrough or growth, everything seemingly falls apart. Seems like you can’t do anything right or things are just getting worse. Stay the course! That’s your mind and body’s last attempt to nudge you back into your old habits, routines, or perspectives! We learned a lot about ourselves today. There was frustration, hung heads, finger pointing! Not because of the outcome, but because of the input! We knew we could play better. We were up and rolling, then that thing happened! It’s when you start to have expectancy of yourself and others. Pressure busts pipes and we had a few cracks today😎 I’m just fine with that! Self awareness is vital in sports and life. We’re close, very close!

Another day and another battle! We’re so close to that breakthrough. That’s when adversity comes along and tries to discourage you. Another great showing by these player’s! We’re on the path to greatness. Whether everyone else see’s it or not. Nothing will stop it, nothing will change it, but who’s there when it arrives may be different than anticipated. That’s quite ok too! These boys have worked hard together, so I know THEY, will be there. They finally are sharing a common goal, to just be better, to be present, to be accountable to one another! I couldn’t be happier for them. To go from tears on Saturday, to smiles on Sunday, makes me excited. I know tears were because they could be better and the smiles? Well-was because they were!

We’re young! We’re short handed and we’re REALLY young. Age does not bring wisdom, but experience does. We’re having the time of our lives. It’s been laughs, nerves, and today tear’s! We almost came away with our first win, but lost 8-7. Some tough calls and uncharacteristic play, some personal battling, equaled an “L”. That’s a LESSON! For the first time these boys were upset, not at the outcome, but because of the “why”! They know they didn’t play there best ball, but they battled. They’ll look back on these moment’s and go “How bad were we?” I’ll get to say, “And because of that, is why you’re so good today!”

We took the opportunity and played up a division! We took our lumps, but we’re getting better each game. That’s the only thing that matters. I challenged these athlete’s to get out them own way and just play. They finally answered. ZERO fear and no backing down by our last game. No losses, just lessons! The best part of coaching is seeing the “light” turn on. Absolutely nothing like it! We’re building better ball players and people! Side note: My son and daughter got play with each other in a game!
