Three fundamental kicks in traditional Karate. These are useful in both striking and self-defense, and are also incorporated into other martial arts like Taekwondo and Kung Fu.

Here's a breakdown of each:

1. Mae Geri – Front Kick

πŸ”Ή Name Meaning:

Mae = Front

Geri = Kick

(Geri is a modified form of "keri" due to Japanese grammar rules)

πŸ”Ή Ex*****on:

Chamber: Lift your knee high in front of you.

Snap: Extend your foot straight forward quickly (ball of the foot is the striking surface).

Retract: Snap it back immediately.

Reset: Place your foot back into stance.

πŸ”Ή Targets:
Groin, stomach, chin, knees.

πŸ”Ή Key Points:
Use the ball of the foot (not the toes).

Keep hands up for guard.

Quick snap and return prevents grabs.

2. Yoko Geri – Side Kick

πŸ”Ή Name Meaning:

Yoko = Side

Geri = Kick

πŸ”Ή Ex*****on:

Chamber: Lift your knee across your body.

Pivot: Rotate your standing foot sideways.

Kick: Extend the leg out to the side.

Striking surface: Heel or edge of foot.

Retract & reset.

πŸ”Ή Targets:
Ribs, knees, abdomen, hips.

πŸ”Ή Key Points:

Keep your body aligned.

Pivot your standing foot for full hip extension.

Use your heel for power.

3. Ushiro Geri – Back Kick

πŸ”Ή Name Meaning:

Ushiro = Backward

Geri = Kick

πŸ”Ή Ex*****on:

Look over shoulder: Always check your target.

Lift rear leg straight back.

Kick directly behind using the heel.

Return to stance.

πŸ”Ή Targets:

Midsection, groin, chest, face (if opponent is bending).

πŸ”Ή Key Points:

Keep body upright and balanced.

Strike with the heel.

Look before kicking to avoid wild shots.
