Parents spend hundreds of dollars on floaties, puddle jumpers, vests, kickboards, noodles, swim trainers, and every new gadget promising to help kids learn to swim.

Here’s the truth…

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺.

Many of these products actually encourage body positions and movement patterns that make independent swimming harder to learn. Even more concerning, they can create false confidence, both in children and the adults supervising them.

Far too many drowning tragedies happen after “swim time” is over. A child who has spent the day floating around in a swim aid may believe they can swim independently, then later jumps or falls back into the water without it. The confidence remains…the flotation doesn’t.

Save your hard-earned money.

Instead of buying another “swim aid,” invest in quality swim lessons that teach real skills. Those skills last a lifetime.

No gadget teaches swimming.

If the kids are swimming, you must supervise!

SWIMMING SAFETY TIPS:

- There is no substitute for active supervision
- Actively supervise children in and around open bodies of water, giving them your undivided attention.
- Whenever infants or toddlers are in or around water, an adult should be within arm’s reach to provide active supervision. We know it’s hard to get everything done without a little multitasking, but this is the time to avoid distractions of any kind. If children are near water, then they should be the only thing on your mind.
- When there are several adults present, and children are swimming, use the Water Watcher card strategy, which designates an adult as the Water Watcher for a certain amount of time (such as 15-minute periods) to prevent lapses in supervision.

Designating a Water Watcher is one of the simplest things you can do to keep kids safe at the beach — and one of the most overlooked. 👀

Here's how it works:
🔵 One adult. One job. Watch the water.
🔵 No phones. No side conversations.
🔵 Rotate every 15–20 minutes so you stay alert.

Drowning is fast and silent. Active supervision isn't optional — it's everything.
