It is with great sadness that we share the passing of John Thompson, one of the founders of the Lions Fastpitch softball program.
For more than 20 years, John dedicated countless hours to the Lions as a coach, board member, volunteer, fundraiser, tournament organizer, and supporter of generations of young athletes. His commitment helped build the program and create opportunities for countless girls to play the game he loved.
Though John eventually stepped away to spend more time with his family, his impact on the Lions remains. Every player who puts on a Lions uniform is part of a program he helped build from the ground up.
We extend our deepest condolences to John’s family.
John will forever be part of the Lions legacy. Once a Lion, always a Lion. 🥎❤️🖤

Charley Rasmussen, 14
Marion, Iowa
Iowa vs. Wisconsin (Homecoming), October 31
Kindergarten was hard for Charley Rasmussen. She often felt sick, lost 20 pounds in a single month, and experienced severe pain that sometimes woke her at night. As her health declined, her family searched for answers. In January 2018, Charley was diagnosed with Addison’s disease, a rare condition in which the body does not produce enough essential hormones. With treatment and the support of her care team, Charley and her family established a plan to help her thrive.
