Helping Kids Calm Anxiety — The Martial Arts Way
Anxiety in children is at an all-time high. School, social pressures, and constant stimulation can leave kids feeling overwhelmed.
One of the most powerful tools I’ve taught over my 50+ years in martial arts is a simple **breathing exercise** that can calm the body and quiet the mind in seconds:
👉 **Belly Breathing (Martial Arts Method)**
1. Sit or stand tall.
2. Place one hand on your belly.
3. Inhale slowly through your nose, filling your belly like a balloon (not your chest). Count to 4.
4. Hold for 2 seconds.
5. Exhale slowly through your mouth to a count of 6, letting your belly fall.
6. Repeat 5–10 times until calm.
✨ This exercise works instantly by lowering heart rate and reducing stress hormones.
For long-term resilience, encourage:
✅ Regular physical activity (martial arts, sports, outdoor play)
✅ Consistent routines (predictability reduces worry)
✅ Talking openly about feelings without judgment
✅ Limiting screen time before bed to improve sleep
