This is the current water status at Matagorda Harbor and the temps are only going to get lower. During the slight warm up tomorrow I’ll be running the Matagorda area to try and assess the damage. Hopefully there won’t be anything to report about, but it’s not looking very good. Stay tuned tomorrow afternoon and I’ll report the findings. If anyone checks other areas of the state please report any kill you come across. Also please if you find and tagged fish to report them to the respected program.

Another year is wrapped up and it ended very well. My daughter, Ashton and I went and tagged a few this morning in our local waters of Caney creek. As we are prepping for NYE I got the phone call of a recapture down in Aransas Pass. This fish was tagged Jan 4, 2024 and grew 3” in almost a year to 26 on the nose. She was captured by this young man while redfishing with and kicked off strong to ring in the year. As we move into 2025 we are hoping for a better fishery and more recaptures of our tagged trout to further gain and share knowledge of the most sought after fish in the our bays.

While there haven’t been many recent posts, rest assured that tagging efforts are still ongoing along the coast. The number of fish being caught has been impressive, helping to conserve the species. There are also an incredible number of 6-7lb fish, which will only continue to grow. With my full-time job slowing down, the page will become more active again. Here are some of the ones anglers have submitted over the last few weeks. Thank you all for your support and tight lines.
