Most people think building muscle and losing fat at the same time is impossible - It's not! 😌
It's just slower, smarter, and way less flashy than social media makes it seem.
💯The key is giving your body two signals at once: a reason to keep/build muscle, and a reason to use stored body fat for energy.
Resistance training is the first signal, but not from random workouts! Instead, your goal is to aim for progressive training where PERFORMANCE improves over time.
This means more reps with the same weight, more load with the same form, better ex*****on, shorter rest periods strategically used - you know, the less "sexy" stuff.
Your body builds muscle when it has to adapt to demand, not when you simply “exercise.”
Research consistently shows resistance training is the anchor for gaining lean mass and preserving muscle during fat loss phases. It MUST be used!
Nutrition is where most people miss the train though...
If calories are too low, performance drops and muscle gain stalls. But if calories are too high, fat loss stalls. So what should you do?
The sweet spot is usually a small deficit or around maintenance, paired with high protein intake. THIS IS KEY!🔑
Protein isn’t just for muscle growth, but it also helps preserve lean tissue and improves fullness.
Evidence suggests around 1g/lb of lean body mass per day is a strong target for both goals.✅️
Also, put a good portion of your carbs before and after training so you perform better, recover faster, and keep training quality high while leaning out.
People obsess over calories but ignore workout fuel. Remember, if your workouts start to suffer (lack of energy), you have a problem!
Also take note of this: the scale may barely move during this process.
That doesn’t mean nothing is happening. If strength is climbing, waist is tightening, and clothes fit better, you’re likely recomping well.
Final note: this muscle gain/fat loss process works fastest for beginners, so if you're advanced, you can still do it, but the margin for error gets smaller. Just stick with it! 💪🏼
