We remember our beloved Melba, who would have turned 99 today. As a young mom in 1958, she started Melba's Dance School, growing it over time to eventually include SEVEN studios and a large dancewear shoppe. Her legacy continues, with Melba's Dance now in its 69th year! 🩰⭐🎶🥰🎉🎂👑🌹💐✨

In 1987, Gregory Hines came to the Valley. Our founder, Melba Huber, had a daughter named Laurin who had spent a year in NYC around 1980, furthering her dance training. While there, she met and befriended Gregory Hines. After a tragic accident left her completely disabled, her friend Gregory stayed in touch with Melba to see how Laurin was doing. He ended up coming to the RGV to do a show, during which he made sure Laurin had a spot in the wings to get the best view (this photo shows a moment between them during the show).

While here, he also gave a free tap dance clinic at Melba's Dance School (see previous post). Gregory Hines will always have a special place in our hearts. ⭐😍🎶🌹

Every leap starts with showing up. 🩰

Dance is more than beautiful. It's good for growing bodies and minds. A systematic review in Frontiers in Physiology looked at the physiological and psychological benefits of dance and its effects on children and adolescents, and makes the case for dance as a viable way for young people to stay active.

Strength, confidence, and joy, all in one class.

Daniela enjoyed her senior year at Melba's Dance and is now a college freshman. We're so proud of her! 💗
