Hey out there!
Happy Spring! It's a hot one out there, isn't it? Can I tell you something super important? We need to have a quick chat about
☀️ HEAT STROKE
"It's not summer yet, Ms Becca!"
No, it is not! Which is EXACTLY why we are gonna chat. It is gonna be in the high 80s this week in Henry County. It is so so soooooo important that you make sure you are taking every precaution you would if it were SUMMER outside. Our bodies are not used to such a quick warm up after being so chilly.
This past Sunday my son attended a party in the afternoon. He had naped, we ate and hydrated before the party, applied sunscreen, and sunglasses cause "I'm cool, Mom!" we brought extra bottles of ice water and even with the basic Spring precautions, we had a case of 🥵HEAT EXHAUSTION. He went from 65 to almost a dead stop within twenty minutes. Complained of a headache. Absorbed his water bottle like a sponge, and when he wasn't drinking from it, he was holding it against his head. This wasn't MY KIDDO. We said our 'thank you's and 'see ya later's and headed home.
We had a really rough night, because I don't think we caught it in time and we ended up having a minor heat stroke.
When we say it's important to notice the signs, we kid you not. It can set in quickly and take you out quicker. Not only for adults, yep..... but those littles..... those littles man they seem tough! They give us the same level of sass as those elders, so keep an eye on those precious goobers, too. Take breaks frequently in the shade or indoors. Include plenty of water breaks to avoid dehydration. Wear sunscreen, sun protection clothing, and or headwear.
SIGNS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION (in kids and young adults)
* elevated body temperature (100-104 degrees)
* goosebumps / chicken skin
* cool, clammy skin
* headache
* increased thirst
* irritability
* nausea
SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE (in kids and young adults)
* body temperature higher than 104 degrees
* lack of sweating
* confusion/ disorientation
* vomiting &/or diarrhea
* severe headache
* weakness
* loss of consciousness
*babies display restlessness and rapid breathing, irritability and lethargy. they cannot use their words!!
Stay cool, you wee beans! I will see you all poolside before you know it! Less than 30 days left of school!!

Rip Currents take even the most experienced swimmers. Anyone taking off to the beach should read the information
Malcom-Jamal Warner’s tragic drowning Sunday in Costa Rica is a reminder of the dangers posed by rip currents.
Rip currents can form on almost any beach with breaking waves, even on sunny and calm days. They are often difficult to see and can sweep up even the best of swimmers.
So how can you avoid them, and what should you do if you get caught up in one?
We've got tips, including where to get the latest rip current forecast for the MD/DE beaches, at http://cwg.live

Got an okay clearance from my surgeon to get back in the pool! Your girl here took on a dose of post surgical infection & now I'm ready to take on the rest of the summer. If you're in need to the lesson, I may have the time slot for you!

Good morning swimmers and parents!
As some of you may have seen in a previous post, for have heard from this Ole gal, I had emergency surgery on my ear.. and I'm now in a battle with a possible infection.
Thank you to everyone for the understanding and compassion you have shown for me this swim season. This has been extremely exhausting for my body and I really want to be my best for you!
That said, I will not be in the pool (or anywhere for that matter 😭) until Monday the 7th of July.
In the interest of body healing and previous commitment, I think it would be best for me to not take on new clients as of today for the remainder of the swim season.
((If I have already contacted you back, that does not include you!!))
I'm sorry summer 2025 swam this way, but I have a lot of hope that this surgery can help cure many of my ills.
Much love, bubbles n boogers;

Y'all, it's HOT 🥵 outside. . . Naw, it's HOOOOOT outside!!!
‼️🌡️☀️ 🌡️‼️
We currently have a heat advisory in effect in Henry County!
What does that mean when you're out swimming?
☀️ Sunscreen!!! And then don't forget to reapply after 45-60 minutes!! Especially if you're getting wet!
☀️ Or choose to wear a UV shirt. They not only keep the sun off your skin, they stay moist and keep you cool!
☀️ Pick a shady spot!!! Whether an umbrella, trees or other type of shade producing element. It feels up to 10° cooler in the shade without direct UV contact.
☀️ Stay Hydrated!!! Take frequent water breaks to stay hydrated throughout the entire day. Be mindful of what types of food and liquids you're taking in.
☀️ Take breaks inside!!! If you can, take breaks inside an air conditioned environment. Allow your body to cool.
Any body temperature over 104° is considered life threatening.
Heat Stroke presents itself with multiple signs;
- confusion
- rapid breathing
- vomiting/ nausea
- faint/ dizziness
- pail/ dry skin
If you feel as though you or someone you're with is experiencing these symptoms contact emergency personnel and remain calm. Bringing the body temperature down is the main goal either using ice or removing excess clothing. Take small sips of water or a sports drink to rehydrate.
Always swim safely!

Are you deciding 'weather' or not to swim today? Inclement weather is not something to play around with when it comes to water safety. Of course indoor pools don't have the same issues as outside pools, lakes, rivers, or oceans . . . Take note of your prospective swimming environment.
Anytime you plan on heading out to swim, always check the weather! Not only can most weather apps tell you the hourly weather, you also get a nice glimpse into the UV index. (Put on your sunscreen, yes even if it's cloudy!!) Weather should be checked before and during any swimming or water activity. Even boating and fishing. If you plan on hopping into the water environment and it's spring storms or hurricane season; please take the following precautions & remember that safety is number one.
First, let's get something out of the way. . .
• Water is one of the best electrical conductors on the planet. Saltwater is even better. If you hear thunder immediately get out of the water!!
• When the environment is calm with not much noise pollution, thunder can be heard 20 to 30 miles away. When you hear thunder you are ALWAYS in range of lightning ⚡ and it can travel up to 25 miles away from the initial storm's center.
• At night, you can see lightning up to 100 miles away... In daylight, it's only 25 miles. If you see lightning, seek INDOOR shelter immediately. (Something with four walls, or even an enclosed vehicle)
• As a general rule of thumb & how I practice *Bad Weather* scheduling here Siren Swimming is: if it's drizzling and it's just rain, my darlings we are already wet!! But the second electricity makes an appearance, we are out of the water for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Depending on the tracking of the storm, 45-60 minutes.
• Always have a safety plan in place, no matter what type of water environment you happen to be enjoying. Being prepared for inclement weather is not only smart, it's iconic.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day weekend! That means pools are opening for the summer swim season! That means parents are out purchasing fun pool toys for their littles!
I'm all for a great time playing in the pool, as long as we're ALL being safe. That's why I am 98% against the purchase of ANY mono'fin for a child.
Learning to 'swim like a mermaid' is extremely dangerous for inexperienced swimmers of ALL ages when using any equipment that forces your feet to stay together. In a serious situation, you need to be able to safely return to the surface, and dolphin kicking isn't natural motions in moments of panic.
I know, crazy, the lady with a mermaid for a logo says don't buy the mermaid fin! Yep.
Can you learn at some point? Yep! Will it be honing in on not only swim skills, but breath control and upper body strength? YEP!
Make it a goal, not a game!!!!
