Tai Chi for Mental Health - Holistic Health Pros 10/05/2025

Hey everyone,

James here from Slick Horns. I wanted to share something that’s really resonated with me lately and might strike a chord with some of you too.

The VA has officially recognized Tai Chi as a valuable complementary practice for managing PTSD, TBI, stress, and even fall prevention. As someone who’s always been drawn to learning through movement and martial arts, discovering Yang Style Tai Chi Form 37 has been eye-opening.

It’s deepened my understanding of grounding—the feeling of rooting myself to the earth—and given me a new level of awareness of my body and how I move. They call it “meditation in motion” for a reason, and I can honestly say it’s lived up to that name.

I started training with Holistic Health Pros and Master Peter, who I found through the American Tai Chi and Qigong Association. The instruction has been incredible.

Tai Chi has even impacted my horsemanship. One of the pillars of the practice is breathwork—breathing through the nose in a long, slow, quiet, and fine way. That stillness and control in breathing directly relates to the calm and grounded energy we aim to share with our horses.

If this speaks to you, I’d be happy to talk more or point you in the right direction.

Take care,
James

As we reflect on this holiday season, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the veterans, first responders, and organizations like the Warrior Ranch Foundation and Pal-O-Mine for their incredible dedication and service. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to partner with in providing our nations heroes a space to learn, grow, and heal through horsemanship and team roping.

Our Horsemanship and Roping programs helps our veterans and first responders find strength, camaraderie, and peace, and it is an honor to play a small part in that journey. We also want to thank Two Crows for supporting all of us throughout the past couple of years. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without Mr. Larry and Ms. Wendy.

Joe Artego & James Cohan would like to wish everyone a safe, joyful holiday season filled with warmth and gratitude. Thank you for your service, and we look forward to continuing this amazing work together in the new year!
