I try to let the story lead. This week I showed up off script to discuss how the podcast started and what I’ve tried to preserve over the years.

I got an urgent message from one of my swimmers, she was spiraling about cold water temperatures ahead of her race. What if it’s colder than expected? What if I can’t handle it?
I know that feeling intimately. I refused to get in the water before I swam the length of Loch Ness. I was afraid that if I did, I’d psych myself out before I even started.
That experience lives in how I coach.
When a swimmer comes to me scared, I ask them to feel what’s actually happening in their body — the heat it generates, the blood moving, the engine running — and start there. Because when you stop fighting sensation and start getting curious about it, something shifts. You stop spending energy on resistance. You free it up for movement. For presence. For the next stroke.
And that capacity doesn’t stay in the water.
It shows up in hard conversations. Sitting with uncertainty. Letting go of outcomes you can’t control.
The conditions are never yours to control. Your relationship to sensation is.
If this resonates, I’d love to talk. Link in bio to book a discovery call.
What happens when coaching becomes less about fixing and more about helping someone notice?
I’ve had the privilege of coaching Heidi for the past few years and this conversation feels especially meaningful to share.
Heidi’s story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the real transformation isn’t becoming “better” at swimming — it’s learning how to listen to yourself differently while you’re in the water.

On the final day of we set out for the northern tip of the island. Each swimmer set a personal goal and created a positioning and feed strategy with their swim buddy and their kayaker. I wish I could have bottled up the energy of cooperation and camaraderie—it was beautiful to watch!
I’m so proud of how each swimmer showed up so fully after a full week of swimming and adventuring! You never know what you’ll get in the open water—wind, waves, chop, current, jellyfish, 🤷🏻♀️… but they were ready to tackle anything!
I’m not sure who was more nervous. I certainly was! But they strode confidently into the water and set off around the nub of and across Douglas Bay, then marched on to Tucari.
Some went beyond, exceeding their own expectations, others called it a day when they landed in “paradise”. It was brilliant to see each of them leaning into the comfort and confidence that they had built over our foundational months coaching online with the lessons learned throughout the week in the open water. It was a joy to watch them step into their power. 🌊

If swimming is where you go to clear your head, but lately it’s felt effortful or draining, it’s probably not because you need to try harder.
Most of us learned to swim for survival, not sustainability—and that shows up later as tension and breathlessness.
I’m offering a 4-week intro to efficient swimming for adults who want swimming to feel supportive again. We’ll refine fundamentals, ease strain, and build a practice that’s joint-safe and built to last.
