More fun in the backyard pond!

Only had 30 min of slick water before the evening rains arrived. Fun fight on 5wt TFO rod with a Pflueger Medalist reel, which was my first fly reel 45+ yrs ago! Made in the USA (back then). Still going strong! Caught on a black gurgler. Topwater takes are the best!

Backyard bonanza! Just before full dark tonight, I was playing around in the backyard throwing a topwater fly. One hefty bass, one medium bass and a florida gar. I didn't know we had gar. Man, their scales are like armor!

Caught some small snook and a d**k. Beautiful morning. Got a tow to the first spot from my buddy, Dave Justice. He pulled me with his Boteboards Rover. Finished up the morning w/ lunch and few IPA's at @pareidoliabrewing. Had the pleasure of meeting Mike from @montanaflycompany. Got blown off the water today early, so I decided to tie a few flies using some exotic feathers I recently received. My nephew had a Golden, also known as an 'Asian' pheasant come onto his property in Maryland that had escaped from a nearby game farm. He gave me some of the under feathers. Not sure what they will look like when wet or what they will catch, but could be the go-to fly on a day when nothing else works. Also may be a good tarpon choice? The body is rooster hackle. Looking forward to dunking them! Thanks again Matt!

Take care of your mommas today! HMD to all the mothers out there! Take 'em fishing! Miss mine! She loved spending the whole day on the water or beach. And she could cook up whatever we caught or harvested as fine cuisine!

Giving credit where credit is due! Hats off to TFO Rods - Temple Fork Outfitters!!! I snapped the 2nd section on my Pro II last Sunday in a very clumsy move - put it on the roof of my car while I dug my keys out of my pack. You know what happened next! Thankfully there was no other damage to the rod nor reel! Not even a scratch as I picked up it off the road! 🙏

On Monday, I went online and ordered the replacement section for a nominal price and it arrived today, just two days later! Well done! 👏👏👏

Beautiful or ugly? Funny thing was the fly actually looked a little like him. I also had the pleasure of listening to a young osprey chirping to his mother as she brought small bites to eat to the nest. One of the benefits of flyfishing is taking the time to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Awesome day on the IRL in Indian River Co. with Thomas Dimatteo of Lox River Fishing! Scored an inshore slam on the fly! Started with a very nice trout, then a small snookie (one of three) and ended the day with a decent red. Also a few mangrove snappers and a blowfish were in the mix. On top of a great day fishing, I learned quite a lot. Improved my casting technique, picked up some hacks to free mangrove entangled flies and discussed lots of fishing strategy! Whether you're a newbie or old hand, going out with an experienced guide like Thomas is a wise investment! I won this trip in a auction at the annual Backcountry Flyfishing Assoc of Brevard (BFFA) fundraiser back in March. Worth every penny!
