Knowing that Sugano Sensei was deeply loved by so many all around the globe, we are particularly grateful to have had his presence at the New York Aikikai for as long as we did. We know that we continue to be influenced by his instruction. Click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtnQaw9adO4 for a quick vid of his teaching yokomenuchi kokyunage at the dojo.

As we honor the Founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba today on the anniversary his death, the USAF remains forever grateful for our strong connection, through the lineage of our teachers, to Aikikai, O Sensei and the Ueshiba family. (O Sensei demonstrating with Yamada Sensei looking on)

It is with great sadness that after 36 years Brevard Aikikai has closed due to a sizable rent increase.
I look forward to continuing to spread my love for aikido at Sand Drift Aikido where my aikido training began 48 years ago. I am very fortunate to have so many inspiring instructors and friends in the USAF and so many wonderful students over the years.
Karen will join me at Sand Drift Aikido and will continue her taekwondo school/training at a different location the beginning of June.
A special thank you to our friends and students that worked all weekend with Karen and I to clean the dojo out.

Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan
1938 - 2023
We acknowledge the body of lifetime work from Yamada Shihan, who began training in 1955. As 8th dan, he was presently the chief instructor at the New York Aikikai, and President of the United States Aikido Federation (USAF).
His contributions are immense and he will be deeply missed.

Posture as a priority…
“First, we must find the correct posture and then, adjust the breathing, and finally arrange the kokoro. Even if we are not going as far as talking about kokoro, if the posture is not correct, there can be no progress, you can not have real relaxation.
In order to use all of one’s power in a fraction of a second, it is necessary to be fully relaxed during the fraction of a second earlier but if the posture is not right, then it is not possible.”
