BSN BASEBALL: FHSAA REGIONAL QUARTERFINALS SCHEDULE & PREVIEW: THE ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR BEGINS NOW

Seven Brevard County teams are still standing. Seven chances. Seven paths. One goal.

The regular season is over. District champions have been crowned. And now, across the state of Florida, it all starts with a win or go home regional quarterfinals.

For 4A-7A that begins Friday and for 1A-3A they’ll play Saturday.

This is where the margin disappears. No series. No second chances. No room to recover.

From Merritt Island to Melbourne, from Viera to Titusville, and all across the 321, Brevard County programs step into the most unforgiving part of the season, the FHSAA Regional Quarterfinals. Every pitch matters. Every at-bat carries weight. Every mistake can end a season.

We’ve already seen how thin the line is. Cocoa Beach beat Lake Highland Prep 1-0 earlier this year.

Last year, Satellite and Key West went to a three-game battle, Viera had to rally after dropping Game 1 to Martin County. These matchups aren’t guesses, they’re proven fights and we get to see them again this year.

But now they’re reduced to one night. This is where stars take over, where pitching staffs are pushed, and where teams that execute in the smallest moments survive.

The teams that can handle pressure, that can deliver with two outs, that can make the routine play when everything is on the line, those are the teams that keep playing.

Everyone else goes home. Welcome to playoff baseball and your home for it, BREVARD SPORTS NETWORK:

FHSAA BREVARD BASEBALL PLAYOFF PREVIEWS:

2A REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL NO.5 LAKE HIGHLAND PREP @ NO.4 COCOA BEACH : SATURDAY 4:00 PM

Cocoa Beach (15-10) hosts Lake Highland Prep (19-6) in one of the most even matchups in the bracket, and the proof is in the result when the two teams met on March 20 — a 1-0 Cocoa Beach win.

In that game, Kayden Dougherty tossed 5.2 innings of five-hit baseball, and Parker Cress closed out the Highlanders with 1.1 innings of one-hit relief.

The Minutemen managed just one hit all night, but it was enough, as Gant Ramsey doubled home Easton Wilson for the game’s lone run.

Cocoa Beach averages 7 runs per game and is led by freshman Garrett Harper, who is hitting .482 with a 1.237 OPS, along with Kayden Dougherty (.414, 25 RBI) and Hayden Wilson (.390).

On the mound, Dougherty (1.80 ERA, 57 K) and Harper (2.00 ERA, 56 K) give the Minutemen two frontline arms in a one-game format.

Lake Highland counters with balance and speed. Ari Lanxner (.417, 1.044 OPS), Oliver Dugan (.372, 25 RBI), and Alec Ochipinti (.354) lead an offense averaging 6.5 runs per game, while Dugan (19 SB) and Socarras (17) create constant pressure on the bases.

On the mound, Ochipinti (1.75 ERA, 66 K) and Dugan (2.06 ERA, 75 K) give them a strong 1-2 punch.

BSN SAYS:

This is as even as it gets, and the first meeting proved it, a 1-0 Cocoa Beach win on the road at Lake Highland Prep. That detail matters.

The Minutemen already went into that environment, managed just one hit, and still found a way to win behind elite pitching and ex*****on. Now the game shifts to Cocoa Beach, and in a one-game playoff, that edge is real.

Lake Highland is a strong, balanced team, but Cocoa Beach has already shown it can neutralize them and win a low-scoring game. If Dougherty and the staff pound the zone again and the defense stays clean, the Minutemen are more than capable of doing it again.

In a matchup this tight, it comes down to who executes in the smallest moments — and the first time around, that was Cocoa Beach.

3A REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL NO.8 TITUSVILLE @ NO.1 NORTH MARION: SATURDAY 5:00 PM

Titusville Terriers (10-9) may be the No. 8 seed, but they come in with momentum after winning the district title the hard way, blasting Space Coast 16-1 and then knocking off Astronaut 7-3 to punch their ticket.

Titusville is led by senior Nolan Edwards, who is hitting .509 with a 1.213 OPS and also anchors the staff with a 4.06 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 31 innings.

Ethan Lynskey is batting .375 with 11 RBI and just delivered the biggest swing of the season in the district title game, while Jacob Bercaw (.356), Ryland Nicolaisen (.389) and Jayvon Morris (.353, .992 OPS) give the Terriers enough offense to compete.

On the mound, Benjamin Pastor adds another reliable arm with a 3.36 ERA over 35.2 innings.

But this is a tough draw.

North Marion Colts (18-6) has the profile of a true No. 1 seed. The Colts have scored 151 runs, hit .285 as a team, and are led by Troy Guynn (.429, 1.165 OPS), Tucker Jones (.357, 1.102 OPS), Alex Gonzalez (.333) and Trenton Ramsey (.311, 17 RBI).

They also have more power than Titusville, with eight home runs as a team. On the mound, CJ Sayler owns a 2.55 ERA with 43 strikeouts, Trenton Ramsey has a 2.10 ERA, and Maddox Roberts has been especially sharp with a 1.66 ERA.

BSN SAYS: Don’t let the No. 8 seed fool you, Titusville is absolutely capable of coming home from Citra with an upset win.

Head Coach Andy Hanson has Titusville peaking at exactly the right time, and that makes them dangerous.

This is a team that just showed it can execute under pressure against Astronaut, and if they get enough on the mound — whether it’s one arm or a mix — everything else starts to fall into place.

The two-out production, the timely hitting, the clean defense, that travels in the postseason. If the Terriers bring that same edge, this is absolutely the kind of team that doesn’t just compete — it’s the kind that flips a bracket and sends shockwaves through a region.

4A REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL NO.8 JENSEN BEACH AT NO.1 MERRITT ISLAND: FRIDAY 6:00 PM

Merritt Island Mustangs (22-3) slid back into the top seed in Region 4 and they look every bit like a No. 1 seed. The Mustangs are hitting .365 as a team, have scored 240 runs, own a 1.78 team ERA, and have the kind of depth that can bury teams fast.

The lineup is relentless. Ty Brandes is hitting .464 with a 1.266 OPS, 40 runs scored and 15 stolen bases, while Liam Miller is batting .423 with 35 RBI and a 1.124 OPS. Freshman Charlie Blalock is at .403 with 28 RBI, and the depth keeps coming with Brody Vogel (.364), Grant Arnold (.358, 26 RBI), Nick Cunningham (.367) and Ryder Widick (.348, 3 HR). There are no easy outs here.

On the mound, Merritt Island can come at you in waves. Jesse Decter is 6-0 with a 2.97 ERA and 57 strikeouts, Tyler Fowks owns a 0.91 ERA, Grant Arnold has a 1.17 ERA, and Nick Cunningham has been nearly untouchable with a 0.64 ERA and a .029 opponents’ batting average.

Jensen Beach (15-9) has some pieces. Colin Ryan is hitting .366 with 21 RBI, Andrew Polhemus is batting .343 with two home runs and a 1.015 OPS, and Jett Stier (.323) and Jayden Brancaccio (.333) add support.

On the mound, Peyton Baum has been strong with a 1.42 ERA and 55 strikeouts, while Seth Osborn owns a 1.97 ERA.

BSN SAYS: Jensen Beach has enough pitching to hang around early, but Merritt Island is deeper, more explosive, and more complete in every phase. If the Mustangs play to their standard, this should be a business trip to the regional semifinals.

4A REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL NO.5 EAU GALLIE @ NO.5 AMERICAN HERITAGE: FRIDAY 7:00 PM

Eau Gallie Commodores (15-10) heads south for one of the toughest draws on Brevard’s board, but the Commodores have enough offense and frontline pitching to make this a real fight.

Eau Gallie is led by KJ Jones, who is hitting .367 with seven doubles, two home runs and a 1.117 OPS. Deklyn Tynan has been a spark all year at .340 with 19 RBI, nine steals and a 1.013 OPS, while Kayden Jaquez has scored 25 runs and driven in 16.

Alex Barna, Vincent Breckenridge and Dominic Breckenridge give the lineup more depth and speed.

On the mound, senior Brock Lustic has been the ace with a 2.04 ERA, 6-1 record and 52 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, while Jovanni Hollenbeck owns a 2.20 ERA and Dominic Breckenridge has two saves with a 2.50 ERA.

American Heritage Patriots (16-8) brings a balanced lineup and deep arms. Angelo Geraldo is hitting .381 with a 1.039 OPS, Gavin Ruvalcaba is batting .375 with four home runs and a 1.122 OPS, and Blayden Caballero adds a .369 average with a 1.035 OPS.

On the mound, the Patriots roll out wave after wave with Snow Brady owning a 1.08 ERA and 49 strikeouts, Gabriel Rozenfeld at 0.90, Dominic Ferreira at 1.05, and Enrique Santos carrying a 1.94 ERA with two saves.

BSN SAYS: This is not an easy draw, but Eau Gallie is absolutely capable of walking into Plantation and winning this game.

The Commodores have the bats to hang around, the speed to create pressure, and a proven big-game arm in South Alabama commit, Lustic. If Eau Gallie pitches cleanly and cashes in its chances, this is a one-game playoff that can swing its way late.

4A REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL NO.7 SATELLITE AT NO.2 KEY WEST: FRIDAY 7:00 PM

This one comes with history.

Satellite (14-11) is headed back to Key West (22-5) to face the Conchs in a rematch of last year’s regional quarterfinals. Key West won that series in three games after Satellite took Game 1, 8-2, before the Conchs answered with wins of 11-5 and 3-0.

The difference this year is simple and massive, this round is now just one game, not a best-of-three series.

Satellite is led by Brady Roberts, who is hitting .375 with 23 RBI, eight doubles, four home runs and a 1.095 OPS. Brandon Bell is batting .338 with a .926 OPS, while Eli Welsh has driven in 18 runs and Noah Ott is hitting .302.

On the mound, Roberts owns a 2.26 ERA, Noah Ott has a 2.55 ERA, and Michael Faucher has carried the heaviest load with 61 strikeouts in 48.2 innings.

Key West is deeper and more explosive offensively. Roman Garcia is hitting .395 with 24 RBI and a 1.125 OPS, Nelson Ong is batting .379, Kade Maltz is at .337 with a 1.039 OPS, and Donovan Thiery has 23 RBI and three home runs.

On the mound, the Conchs can roll out frontline arms in waves with Thiery posting a 1.97 ERA and 81 strikeouts, Maltz owning a 1.15 ERA, and Auggy Davila at 1.17.

BSN SAYS: The trip is a familiar one and the matchup is tough, but the one-game format absolutely gives Satellite a shot.

The Scorpions already proved last year they can beat Key West once. If the offense can set the tone and Satellite gets enough on the mound, and they cash in early chances, this is the kind of game that can get very uncomfortable for the Conchs late.

6A REGION 2
NO.6 HORIZON HAWKS 19-8-1 @ NO.3 MELBOURNE BULLDOGS 19-6: FRIDAY 7:00 PM

Before even getting into the matchup, it’s important to note Melbourne got the raw end of the deal into today’s bracket release.

The Bulldogs won their district championship, had been sitting as a No. 2 seed in Region 2 for several weeks, and somehow dropped to No. 3 in the final bracket.

That does not matter for Friday’s game against Horizon, but if Melbourne gets through, it likely means a road trip to play two games against the No. 2 seed in the regional semifinals.

As for this matchup, Horizon is not a soft draw. The Hawks come in 19-8-1 and can really swing it, hitting .299 as a team with 223 hits and 188 runs scored.

Sebastian Davila leads the way at .365 with four home runs and a 1.035 OPS, while Marco Solozano is hitting .345 with 25 RBI, and Michael Singer adds a .342 average. On the mound, Denver Patton has been outstanding with a 0.75 ERA, while William Malcolm owns a 1.75 ERA.

But Melbourne has the firepower to answer.

The Bulldogs are hitting .300 as a team and are led by one of the best players in the county in Gabriel Gonzalez, who is batting .522 with a 1.368 OPS, 10 doubles, three triples, and 37 stolen bases, just four away from breaking Kevin Verpaele’s Brevard County record of 40 he set in 1999 with then state champion Merritt Island.

Bryce Conner has driven in 26 runs and hit five home runs, Jayden Santos is batting .370 with three home runs and a 1.186 OPS, and Johnny Hemel is hitting .308 with a 1.000 OPS.

On the mound, Clay MacConnell has been the Bulldogs’ ace at 6-0 with a 1.45 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 43.1 innings, while Seth MonteLeon has gone 4-1.

Sean Gates is 3-1 and also one of the top arms on the staff with 40 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched .

BSN SAYS: Horizon is a good 19-win team, but Melbourne is playing with confidence, momentum, and now a chip on their shoulder which they should.

The Bulldogs have the kind of star power that can decide a one-game playoff.

If MacConnell controls the strike zone and Gonzalez keeps doing what he’s done all year, the Bulldogs should be moving on, even if the bracket did them no favors.

BSN BASEBALL: 6A REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL: NO.4 VIERA @ NO.5 MARTIN COUNTY: FRIDAY 7:00 PM

This is one of the stranger matchups on the board.

Viera Hawks (18-5-1) is the higher-seeded non-district champion, but under FHSAA rules the Hawks are forced to travel to Martin County Tigers (19-6), the lower-seeded district champion.

It is also a rematch of last year’s regional quarterfinals, when Viera dropped Game 1 before bouncing back to win Games 2 and 3, including the deciding game at Martin County. This year, though, there is no margin for error. It is just one game.

Viera has enough offense and arms to win it. Carter Lee is hitting .392 and has also been dominant on the mound with a 0.72 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 48.2 innings.

Trey Slavik is batting .380 with a 1.097 OPS and 17 steals, while Liam Russell has driven in 19 runs with a 1.040 OPS.

Bryce Hudkins has added 19 RBI, and Jack Park has given the lineup another spark with a 1.036 OPS.

On the mound behind Lee, Rogan Crockett is 4-0 with a 3.18 ERA, and Ryan Volz has been lights out with a 0.45 ERA.

Martin County is balanced and deep. Grady Messner is hitting .351 with 16 RBI and 19 steals, Brennan Jones is batting .320, Colton Bettencourt is at .318 with 19 RBI, and John Thornton IV brings a .527 OBP.

On the mound, the Tigers can really pitch. Landon Del Tufo is 8-1 with a 1.11 ERA and 52 strikeouts, Brycen Payne owns a 1.24 ERA, Preston Sullivan sits at 1.08, and Hunter Wilson has a 1.22 ERA.

BSN SAYS: This is a tough draw for Viera, but the Hawks absolutely have the pitching and experience to go win it.

Many of the players on this team have already gone on the road and taken a series from Martin County in this exact round a year ago.

In a one-game setting, Viera’s top-end arms and battle-tested lineup give them every chance to do it again but they will have to be sharp from the first pitch because there is no Game 2 waiting.
