Hey y'all! Kenny here. It's no secret that Hockey Memphis has struggled for quite some time to establish itself. For full transparency, while much of our struggle has been finding partners that aren't stretched too thin to even consider bringing hockey into the fold...just as much of it has been matters of personal hardship I've dealt with outside of Hockey Memphis. Life isn't easy, and to many, doing this sort of work where we want to do it is a pipedream & a waste of time. My own struggles with the murder of a close friend as well as my mental health made it hard for me to be confident in myself & take the action I want to take. It put strain on the faith of those who have believed in me and this mission from the beginning.
Disillusioned with how my time in Memphis has gone, I put Hockey Memphis on full hiatus late last year while I reassessed my future here. I'm happy to say that in that time, the constant work I've put into my mental health hit a tipping point. I now see myself as the person I want to be. As someone who can do this! 1.5 months ago, I was looking for a new place & I found one near Gaston Park in South Memphis. It's an area I've wanted to live in since I've been down here (both for myself and Hockey Memphis). The rent is definitely more than it should be (lol) but I took the leap of faith. I've been here for a little over two weeks & it has been amazing. Fast friends with my neighbors and a sense of community. We already have some young people who are interested in being part of Hockey Memphis & I'm excited to share this amazing game with them. WE ARE BACK!

What just happened at the 2025 NHL Draft wasn’t just a moment — it was history in the making.
For the first time ever, over 20 players of color, including at least 10 Black athletes, were selected, making it the league’s most diverse class yet. With names like Kashawn Aitcheson and Shamar Moses leading the way, this draft was a powerful reminder that the future of hockey is bold, Black, and here to stay.

We're horrified by the mass-shooting that occured last night in the park we call home. Out of respect we're cancelling sessions at Orange Mound Park until we're given reason to believe it's appropriate for us to return to using the park. Our hearts go out to our Orange Mound folks. We're currently looking into if there's any way we can provide support to our community. If you know any ways we can please let us know. We're currently looking into if we may have an avenue to connect folks to trauma and grief counseling.
