What a Story…
Description of 1952 Topps start up!!
Very few items in the world of collecting speak for themselves, but this iconic 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle is one of them. "Holy grail" is a term that is often used to describe the significance of the #311 Mickey Mantle card in the legendary 1952 Topps set. The 1952 Topps baseball card set is widely regarded as one of the most significant in the world of baseball card collecting. The Topps Company was founded in 1908 by Morris Shorin. It originally sold to***co supplies until its supplies were cut off during WW1. In 1938, Morris's four sons decided to take the company in a new direction and relaunched the company as "Topps", with the name meant to indicate that it would be "tops" in its field. Their new chosen field was the manufacture of chewing gum. Like most early trading card companies, it all started with a stick of gum. In 1950, to increase gum sales, they opted to begin packaging the gum together with trading cards (starting with Hopalong Cassidy). When they next introduced baseball cards as a product, the gum took a backseat, while the cards became the primary emphasis of the business. In 1952, Sy Berger, a 28-year-old WWII veteran, designed the 1952 baseball set, making it the earliest in the Topps baseball card sets. The company then sent Sy to London, England, to negotiate for the production of The Beatles trading cards, which proved to be a success that was "off the charts". Once Sy Berger secured the Beatles' contract, he returned to New Jersey, where he hired a garbage boat to remove leftover boxes of 1952 baseball cards being stored in the warehouse. The tugboat pulled the boxes off the New Jersey shore and dumped them into the Atlantic Ocean. It's for this primary reason that the 1952 Topps series of baseball cards is often regarded as one of the most collectible and elusive baseball card sets ever produced. The 1952 card set is commonly referred to as the 407 card set, as the set consisted of 407 baseball cards. Mickey Mantle, the Hall of Fame center fielder for the New York Yankees, is widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Known for his incredible power, speed, and switch-hitting ability, Mantle played 18 seasons with the Yankees and helped lead the team to seven World Series championships. With 536 career home runs, three American League MVP awards, and a legacy as a symbol of excellence in the game, Mantle remains an enduring icon in baseball history. Overall, this iconic, 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle is in a category of its own in the world of card collecting and is offered here, in Canadian dollars, for purchase.
