In recent weeks, I’ve had a lot of inquiries regarding pepper spray. I’m a strong advocate of a quality pepper spray and I believe everyone should be carrying it at all times.
I’m certified by two entities as an OC-Pepper Spray Instructor. This means that YES! I have been sprayed and therefore my opinions are based on actual first hand experience with ALL FOUR of the brands that I recommend.
I also recommend education on this subject! Come take a class from me OR go to Top Gun - Memphis and take their class!!! It’s not just about buying it. Understanding it is essential as well as knowing how to use it and how NOT to use it. If you think bear spray or wasp spray is “the answer”, YOU need education and training!!

Well, it’s a shame that it takes a lot of violence here in Memphis to drive my classes. Every time we see a spike in violence, I see a significant spike in class attendance.
My beginner and my intermediate pistol skills classes are BOTH SOLD OUT through the month of November.
And there is a waiting list beyond that.
This is a violent city but this week has been exceptionally violent.
GET TRAINING! Doesn’t have to be from me…..just GET TRAINING. The staff at Top Gun Memphis is exceptional……go there!! Take every class they offer!
As always, stay prepared so you don’t have to get prepared !!

I am at a loss for words. For more than twenty years, he was my friend. He was the most self-less and giving man I have ever known. Every single time we were together, we made memories! He taught me so much. I can’t count the classes I took from him and with him. There were many.
He gave his students 200% at all times and he truly loved training. The fi****ms training community has lost a true giant of a man. We are forever diminished. My heart is broken.
THANK YOU, my friend! You made me a better man and a better instructor!!

If you shoot yourself in the leg while cleaning your handgun…….which TWO of the Four Cardinal Rules of Safety did you break simultaneously??

Yesterday around 2:00pm, a Memphis Police Officer was shot in the line of duty in Hickory Hill while responding to an auto theft call involving an armed party. The suspect was disarmed and taken into custody.
An Officer on the scene APPLIED A TOURNIQUET to the injured Officer !!!
The Officer was transported critical to The Med where he has since been upgraded to stable and is recovering from the GSW.

If you are carrying a concealed defensive handgun, you should be carrying a tourniquet AND you should know HOW TO USE IT. The life you
save may be your own!
If you are not carrying a concealed defensive handgun………..YOU are nothing more than a SHEEP.

Well, it looks like I am definitely going to USCCA Instructor School in mid-August AND to USCCA Training Counselor School from there!!! I’m pretty excited because this will allow me to teach the class required to make someone a TN Certified Instructor for TN Handgun Permit Classes.
When our new location in Millington opens we are going to be teaching some really good classes and hosting some really good Instructors from all over the country as well!!!!

LOCAL FRIENDS: I’m enjoying my weekend breaks for now but I do miss teaching!
I’ve had several inquiries about the new location and our projected opening date. We were given a target date of mid-August and, while that is possible, the “devils advocate” in me thinks first part of September is more realistic. There is a lot of work being done and a lot of work yet to be done!
Meanwhile, if you are looking for any type of class at all……I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you go take a class or several classes at TOP GUN. They have a staff of awesome instructors and the classes they teach are top notch. Heck, you don’t even need to vett their school or their instructors…I’m doing it for you. LOL Go train and learn!!!!!

Bittersweet for me because this is where I taught my very first class back in 1994!!!
Soon, the space on the right will be transformed into my new classroom and I’ll be back in Millington teaching ALL of my classes here!! A complete renovation is underway. The range will look like a larger version of the range at our Wi******er location except this range will be much larger and will go out to 25 yards too. State of the art lighting, climate control and ventilation system will be added as well as armor covered shooting bays and a very nice target carrier system too!! New roof and new backstop are being done now.
Our target opening date is mid-August. To say I am excited is the understatement of the century!!!!
