Hi! My name is Sheena. Maybe you have seen me or met me around The Dive shop in the past nearly 20 years that I've been hanging around!!
Over this time, not only has The Dive Shop become a home to me, but I now have a dive shop family.
As we all know, The Dive Shop is going through a transition, & I could not think of a better way to preserve its legacy than with an Oral History Project. So, with the blessing of Doug & Randy, I'm starting this page as the first step of the project.
So what is a Oral History project, you might ask? Essentially, it is the recorded oral history of place or thing. Throughout the years, I've heard so many great stories, made so many memories, and have stories of my own. As some as you might know, one of my degrees is anthropology, so I would love nothing more than to record & archive the history of The Dive Shop.
So please help me record the legacy of The Dive Shop. Here's the plan
Phase 1- Collect pictures and videos and the written stories behind them. This can be submitted via this page, scanned at the dive shop, or sent via email or dropbox. They will be used on a long-term website and stored on a hard drive
Phase 2- Collect interviews! With the help of our long-term friend & diver Ziggy, we will conduct interviews & record them on video. These will be kept in an archive & also will be used for a full-length video. Interviews will be about your memories of The Dive Shop, which is core to what makes TDS, TDS.
Phase 3- All pictures, videos, and interviews will be archives in a collection for everyone to view whenever, wherever
Phase 4- Get all information(oral history) archived into the main library in Memphis as a historical business & Memphis legacy. This does not mean that stories and pictures are limited to TDS Memphis as everyone and all shops are part of the TDS story
I look forward to hearing everyones' memories!!
