The scope of what Tennis Memphis does extends well beyond managing the city’s tennis centers. As a member of the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network of nearly 600 nonprofit organizations, Tennis Memphis is deeply committed to making tennis available to all children in Memphis with year-round programming throughout the community. Our NJTL youth programs play an integral role in the character development of children who would not otherwise have access to tennis. National Junior Tennis and Learning was founded in 1969 by tennis legend Arthur Ashe and two of his compatriots as a way to make tennis available to traditionally underserved youth, regardless of gender, race, or socioeconomic status. These are intensive, fun seven week daily tennis camps operated at all 7 public tennis centers and 20 parks and community centers. The camp was provided free of charge to almost sixty percent of the 2,500 five- to eighteen-year-old children who participated in 2012.
