Yesterday, I headed to my brother’s house to pick Concord grapes! 🍇
There’s something so special about harvesting food with your own two hands. Filling a basket with something that grew right here, in the soil and sunshine around us.
Grapes feel like such a quintessential part of the fall harvest here in New York. And then there’s what comes after: the cozy kitchen, the smell of grapes simmering on the stove, preserving a little bit of summer to carry into the colder months.
This activity was a good reminder for me that all of our food comes from somewhere, and it has to be carefully grown, harvested, collected for us to have access to it.
If you have the chance this fall, go apple picking, visit a farm stand, or pick up a basil plant to tend to for your kitchen. Bring home something you grew or gathered yourself.
What’s your favorite fall harvest tradition?
