Using a furniture slider as an exercise tool!!

Exercising toe flexors using frictional forces.

✅I’m applying force down into the floor as I flex my big toe to my end available range.

✅I also apply force down into the floor as I start to extend my toe.

💡I had a bag of these furniture sliders in the closet and I’m putting them to use! You could also use a beverage coaster! 😉😊🙌🏼

Rest/Transition: 10sec

•Spinal Flexion (with optional knee extension challenge)

Full Body Isometric Workout

Grab a towel and try this full body isometric style workout using multi-jointed positions

For Mid level to advanced exercisers
Perform 3 to 6 rounds
Work: 10 to 30sec
Rest/Transition: 10sec

•Plank arms extended or forearms draw inward
•Deadlift position tight abs push through the floor use ground frictional focuses to push outward
•Hip extension with shoulder extension and hamstring focus knee extension using the ground friction forces heels draw towards butt shoulder extension
•Split lunge L leg forward R shoulder abduction , use frictional forces using the ground the draw the feet towards each other
•Split lunge R leg forward L shoulder abduction same on this side

Curious about probiotics?
Let’s first define what they are. Probiotics are tiny living bacteria (microorganisms) that inhabit our Gastrointestinal tract.

What can they do for you?
There are multiple benefits from probiotics. Here I will only list several, but there are many research articles that discuss other benefits.
According to the Journal of Probiotics and health, many studies have shown that probiotics can:
stimulate the immune system.
decrease serum cholesterol.
alleviate lactose intolerance.
decrease diarrheal incidence.
control infections.

How long does it take to ferment?
That depends on how you like your cabbage and what you’re looking for in nutritional/microbial content. In the study I’ve attached below, it shows a significant difference between the first few days of fermentation and the 6-7th days. I fermented for 7 days, because that is the “peak” in fermentation for this cabbage, but it is optional to ferment for longer or shorter duration.

One of the many ways to produce these friendly bacteria is through fermenting foods!
In this recipe I’ve chosen cabbage. It is cheap and easy to do!

KRAUT RECIPE:

Ingredients:
1-1 ½ tsp. salt
1-2 Heads of cabbage

Supplies:
1 large bowl
1-2 large mason jars with lid
1-3 Small jars to put inside of mouth of larger jar to weigh down the cabbage.

Instructions:

Step 1: Wash cabbage, supplies, and area you will be working in thoroughly.

Step 2: Cut cabbage into desired size.

Step 3: Put cabbage in the large bowl and add the salt. Mix with your hands for 10 minutes until bowl of cabbage has shrunk and is wilted. (you may have to add more salt depending on how much cabbage you have.

Step 4: Once the cabbage is wilted, stuff inside the large mason jar and pack it down with the washed smaller jar that fits inside. (Keep packing down). You may see juices, which is normal!

Step 5: Once you’ve packed the cabbage into the large mason jar, put the small jar back inside of it, and add weight to the smaller jar. (you can use washed rock, marbles, anything that will weigh the kraut down). And place a light towel or cheesecloth over top. Let stand for 24 hours.

Step 6: remove smaller jar, and put the lid on the larger jar packed with kraut. Let sit for as long as desired in a dark space at room temperature. (Optimal length for most probiotics = 7 days.)

Review of articles

The first study focused on the health benefits of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) produced from fermented cabbage, specifically Brassica rapa L., over a 28 day analysis. I’ve attached 1 graph of the study’s data to show the production of LAB over the 28 day period, as well as the significant difference of micro bacteria present in the first few days compared to the “peak” around day 7. (Sandagdorj, et al, 2019). AMAZING! This study concluded that the number of LAB increased in fermentation of the brassica rapa L. While using starter cultures added to another batch of the fermentation, gave rise to cytokine production. (sandagdori, et al, 2019).

The 2nd article focused on nutrients yeilded from fermented foods. The table shown is specifically fruits and vegetables, althought the whole articles covers meats, grains, and dairy.

Table 4: shows the health promoting compunds of the foods tested, as well as the microorganisms produced when fermented. (which differs depending on what is being fermented).

Isometrics are great exercise choice at home! They allow you to create the exact amount of tension you need to at any given moment. If you push/squeeze into a solid and immovable object, the exercise will allow your muscles to give FEEDBACK to your central nervous system.... this process makes for MORE EFFICIENT muscles!! More efficient muscles make for a stronger, healthier, and more mobile you!! 🤓🍎

Things to remember 🧠
👉🏼Keep your spine in a neutral position
👉🏼Use your hands, blocks, broom handles or a wall to push into (FEEDBACK)
👉🏼Back off on your effort/force output or adjust the range your in if you feel shaky

Perform these exercises for 20 to 90sec each, depending upon your goal!!
