Six years ago, I thought I lost everything.
When the world changed in 2020, I had to close the doors to my beautiful grand space yoga studio called Awaken Yoga. Awaken Yoga was born in 2005, so I was closing a 15 year chapter on my life.
As a single mom, it felt like the ground beneath my feet had completely vanished as I had no sources of income coming in. I retreated into my home, took a few months to ground and observe, set up a small makeshift lab to blend my aromatherapy and skincare while I finished my Master's, and schooled the kids from home temporarily. It was peaceful, yet chaotic …if that makes sense.
In late 2020, it was decided I would plan building out the basement to house a private studio and formal lab space. I was there for a couple years, but then I knew when the world started to open up again, I needed to get out, be in groups again.
Three years ago, the push to make a choice for me and my kids became more real, I took a massive leap of faith and bought my current studio space, no more renting. I wanted a permanent, physical sanctuary to house the beautiful community my students had committed to and we built together.
I honestly didn't know if the magic would translate to a new space. But you showed me that the studio was never about the four walls. It was always about the people inside them.
You, my students & supporters, didn't leave me. When I moved to my home lab, you followed. Super cute, small open houses that were so fun, and had me decorating the house from top to bottom…you helped me with the biggest, scariest transition of my life.
Then where we are now, my little suite called Wild Nurturer, to demonstrate my desire to care for people but usually not within the mold that people expected. I choose Awaken Yoga's name because it started with an A, and that mattered back then to get me at the top of the phone book. This time, I creatively chose what really spoke true to me.
The character of Wild Nurturer is true to my Virgo nature, caring with fearlessness + intention, an open heart and integrity that I hope you notice every time you walk through the door.
