Manufacturers often market their lights by how bright they are. This is measured in lumens, candela, and lux. To add to the confusion they will argue about throw, spill, light temperature, and more.
This is a quick demo of three lights from well known brands. The trees were approximately 50 meters away from us and there was low natural illumination at the time.
➡️ Ignoring all the science stuff and numbers, it comes down to, can you positively identify your target and determine if they are a threat. ⬅️
A coyote and someone’s pet dog look real similar when it’s dark. Or someone else out hiking at night and someone who means to do you harm could look very similar as well.
