Severe Thunderstorms explode when cap was breached after sundown! We call them "Nocturnal Thunderstorms" which causes significant wind damage and poss. Tornadoes. After an extremely hot day the column of air from the surface to thousands of ft into the atmosphere is relatively very warm itself. After sunset and late into the night the middle part of the atmosphere cools off allowing the hot surface air to rise quickly aloft and condensing explodes creating Single, line and Large complex severe storms which will last all night but fall apart by mid am the next day as the atmosphere undergoes rapid heating once more.
