“Your child won’t fall in wearing a swimsuit and floaties”

Read that again.

Most water accidents happen unexpectedly.
After bedtime.
During BBQs.
Chasing a ball into pond.
While fully clothed.

That’s why we practice swimming in pajamas or regular clothes.

Heavy, wet clothing changes everything
•how the water feels
•how the body moves
•how fast a child gets tired
•and how they respond emotionally

But giving kids a chance to safely experience that feeling can build confidence, awareness, in real life survival skills.

Water safety is more than swim lessons…
It’s preparation for real life

Had you ever thought about practicing swimming in clothes before seeing this?

Most kids naturally push away from the wall when they panic in the water.
But one small skill can make a huge difference: teaching them to reach UP and grab the wall. 🏊‍♀️

When kids know how to safely grab the edge, they can:
✔️ stop themselves from drifting away
✔️ move toward the stairs or an adult
✔️ stay calmer in an unexpected water situation

At our swim school, we practice this skill over and over because water safety isn’t just about swimming, it’s about knowing how to respond when instincts take over.

Parents are often surprised to learn that pushing away from the wall is the natural reaction for many young children. That’s why intentional water safety practice matters so much. 💙

Shoutout to Water Safety Mom for continuing to spread awareness about lifesaving swim skills and safer pool habits for families everywhere.

💦 “But my child NEEDS goggles to swim!” 💦

One of the most common things we see is goggle dependency. It’s when a child becomes uncomfortable or nervous swimming without goggles.

At our swim school, we actually wait to introduce goggles until a swimmer is already confident and independent in the water, and there’s an important safety reason for that.

Why? ⬇️
🌊 Kids need to learn how water feels on their face
👀 They need to practice opening their eyes underwater
💦 It helps desensitize sensory discomfort around water
🏊 Most importantly: if a child accidentally falls into water without goggles, they need to know they can still safely swim, float, and find the wall or an adult

Goggles can be a great tool later on, but early on they can sometimes become a barrier to building true water confidence.

If your child already loves swimming with goggles outside of lessons, try this simple balance:
👉 Swim half the time with goggles
👉 Swim half the time without them
This helps build comfort, confidence, and real-life water safety skills 💙

Ever see a kiddo shimmy sideways along like wall like a little crab?
That’s not just cute… it’s a life saving skill.

We call it “wall scooting” and it’s one of the most important things a swimmer can learn early on.

Why it matters 👇🏼
Instead of trying to swim across the pool (hello, panic mode), kids can:
✨Scoot to the steps to get out safely
✨Scoot towards a trusted adult
✨Scoot AWAY from something unsafe
✨Take their time and stay calm while holding on

It gives them control, confidence, and a clear plan if they were to fall in.

And the best part?
It’s simple, repeatable, and works even when they are tired or overwhelmed.

We practice it again and again so it becomes automatic, because in the water… simple skills save lives 💙

Next time you’re at the pool, try it out!
Hands on the wall, little side steps, and scoot scoot scoot your way to safety!

For so many of our kids, the goal isn’t “swimming” right away.

Because calm bodies learn.

When a child is regulated, everything opens up. Trust, confidence, and eventuality… Real water safety

This is what we focus on first. Always.

What your child learns in a puddle jumper might surprise you 👇🏼

Flotation devices can feel like a great safety tool and for many families, they’re a part of pool time.

But it’s important to understand what they teach a child’s body.

When kids are consistently floating upright in a flotation device, they can start to believe that’s how their body naturally floats.

So when the device comes off, their body position expectations, don’t always matter reality.

And most young kids won’t stop to grab a device before jumping in… which is where that disconnect can become risky.

This isn’t about fear, it’s about awareness. Teaching kids how to safely move in the water on their own is a key part of building real water safety skills! 🛟💦
