โญ๏ธThe Starfish

Meet our Signature Teaching Technique we call the Starfish. This is our back float technique where we teach each child to fill their belly with air and spread their arms away from their body and their legs out to a make star shape. We also ask each child to relax their neck and look up to the sky.

We practice this technique every single lesson and see how much longer each child can hold their back float.

The Starfish is a great resting position but can also save a life.๐ŸŒŸ

We Stretch Before We Swim โ€” and Hereโ€™s Why! ๐Ÿ’™

When it comes to our Desert Swim School older kiddos, who are at the stroke technique level, itโ€™s one of the most important things we do before anyone hits the water. ๐ŸŒŠ

Hereโ€™s why it matters ๐Ÿ‘‡
๐Ÿ™†โ€โ™€๏ธ Warms up little muscles so the body is ready to kick, float, and move safely
๐Ÿง  Shifts the brain into focus mode โ€” from playground energy to swim-ready calm
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Reduces the risk of cramps and strain keeping every session safe and fun
๐Ÿ’ช Builds body awareness that directly improves balance and technique in the water
๐Ÿ˜Œ Creates a consistent routine that helps anxious swimmers feel safe and settled

The best swim lessons donโ€™t start at the poolโ€™s edge, they start before it. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’พ Save this and share it with a swim parent who needs to see it!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

From all of us at Desert Swim School, thank you to the courageous men and women who served our country. Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful, and joy-filled Memorial Day with family and loved ones.

๐Ÿงธ Teddy Bear Hugs = Backstroke Boosts โ€” and the CUTEST skill we teach at Desert Swim School!

It may look like just a cozy cuddle in the water, but this sweet little method is doing BIG things for your childโ€™s swim journey. Tummy up. Hips high. Confidence building ๐ŸŒŠ

Hereโ€™s how the magic works ๐Ÿ‘‡
โœ… Step 1 โ€” Child learns to float independently and comfortably on their back for several seconds
โœ… Step 2 โ€” Child holds tight onto a small kickboard like itโ€™s their favorite teddy bear ๐Ÿงธ
โœ… Step 3 โ€” Instructor guides from the head, encouraging straight, steady kicks backwards

This simple but powerful technique keeps the torso stable, hips lifted, and body position perfect โ€” building the exact foundation needed to add arms and unlock a full backstroke! ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ

It builds body awareness. It builds balance. It builds water confidence. And it makes kids EXCITED to be in the pool.

Because at Desert Swim School, we believe learning to swim should feel just as safe and warm as a teddy bear hug. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’พ Save this if you have a little swimmer at home. Drop a ๐Ÿงธ below if your little one has tried this!

๐Ÿ’ฆ 5 Ways to Get Swim-Lesson Ready!

Before your little one jumps in, make sure theyโ€™re truly prepared! ๐Ÿ‘‡

The families who see the fastest progress arenโ€™t just showing up, theyโ€™re preparing at home. Here are 5 simple things you can do before day one:

Talk about water safety rules. Get in the pool together. Leave the puddle jumper at home. Reassure your nervous swimmer. And practice listening before they ever meet their instructor.

Small steps at home lead to big wins in the water. ๐ŸŒŠ

Our instructors take care of the rest. Meeting every child exactly where they are, at their own pace, with no pressure and a whole lot of fun.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Tag your friend or family who needs to see this! Every family with little ones near the water needs to know. ๐Ÿ’™

JITA โ€” Our Signature Safety Technique That Could Save Your Childโ€™s Life

Coach Luke and his awesome swimmers are mastering JITA โ€” Desert Swim Schoolโ€™s signature safety technique!

Jump In โžก๏ธ Turn Around โžก๏ธ Grab the Wall โžก๏ธ Climb Out

This simple yet powerful skill teaches kids how to instinctively find the wall and get to safety after entering the water. Progressive. Serious. Repetitive โ€” on purpose. We drill it again and again until it becomes pure muscle memory, because in the water, instincts save lives.

JITA is one of the first and most important steps in swim safety we teach, designed for ages 1โ€“5, or until they can swim 5 feet or further. ๐ŸŒŠ

๐ŸŽ‰ Smiles, splashes, and serious skills, just another day of learning and fun with one of our amazing coaches!

Last summer, right before our parent & tot class began, I sat down with parents for a real conversation about water safety โ€” and itโ€™s one of the most important things we do. ๐Ÿ’™

Teaching young children to hold their breath, grab the pool wall, float on their back, and actually swim isnโ€™t optional. Itโ€™s essential.

This particular conversation happened shortly after a drowning in a nearby city. So yes โ€” it gets real.

In this video youโ€™ll hear us talk about:
๐Ÿ”’ Fences, gates, and locks around your pool
๐Ÿงธ Keeping toys away from the waterโ€™s edge
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Eye-to-eye contact โ€” and why there is absolutely no substitute for it

Our parent & tot classes build all of these life-saving skills, wrapped in songs, positivity, and lots of repetition โ€” because thatโ€™s how little ones learn best.

If your child isnโ€™t swimming yet, letโ€™s change that. Visit desertswimschool.com to enroll.

And now, letโ€™s look back on a few of our favorite memories! ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Whether you swam at Janiceโ€™s backyard pool, Red Mountain Ranch Country Club, Cooley Station, Mulberry, or your own backyard with Selia or Kailey โ€” thank you for trusting us with your children โค๏ธ. Itโ€™s been an honor to be part of their swim journey.

The progress weโ€™ve witnessed has been truly phenomenal! ๐ŸŒŸ

From crying babies ๐Ÿ˜ข to laughter ๐Ÿ˜„, smiles ๐Ÿ˜Š, going underwater, and grabbing the wall โ€” like Lila and friendsโ€ฆ

From struggling with front breathing to confidently swimming the length of the pool in freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke (plus treading water!) ๐Ÿ’ช โ€” like Remi and Emiliaโ€ฆ

To Treyson, who at just three years old, could listen attentively, be dropped in, and swim safely to the side of the pool ๐Ÿ›Ÿ.

Every single milestone made us proud as instructors ๐Ÿ‘.

Thank you for an amazing season and see you again next summer! ๐Ÿ’™
